Episode 6 Recap
When Lieutenant Tsurumi eventually arrives in Noboribetsu, he first notices Anji Toni’s tattooed skin. Tsurumi exhibits his tattoos to everyone present and expresses surprise that Ariko was able to locate the man despite the snow. Ariko is discovered attempting to take possession of the tattoos that Tsurumi was carrying.
Anji Toni survived, and the tattoos Ariko gave his friends were just fakes and were subsequently discovered. Fortunately, Tsurumi already understood what the skin had to say and could detect Ariko’s deception. After beating Ariko up, he decides to employ him as a double agent and sends him back to Hijikata.
Hijikata had supplied them with a skin that they would later discover wasn’t Anji Toni’s on purpose. He deduces that Ariko returning to them could only signify one of two things: either he is a double agent or the Lieutenant willingly permitted the theft of the tattoos.
Hijikata still views this as a plus, though, as it will get them even closer to the truth about the wealth than the tattoo they discovered with the taxidermist.
While Enonoka says goodbye, Sugimoto and his companions get ready to head to Oodomori. Tanigaki Nispa makes the difficult decision to let Cikapasi stay in the community.
Koito tells Tsukishima that Ogata told him to ask Tsurumi about the Manchurian Railroad, which serves as the de facto expansion of the Japanese territory. They won the rights to it after the war against Russia. He asks Tsukishima if Tsurumi was responsible for one of the general’s death.
It is revealed that Ogata was the one who killed his father, the general, and Tsurumi had staged everything, including the kidnapping. His purpose for acquiring the gold was to start the revolution and invade Manchuria. Koito is impressed with Tsurumi, and Shiraishi overhears their conversation.
Shiraishi asks Sugimoto if he intends to give Lieutenant Tsurumi control of Asirpa. Sugimoto believes that after Lieutenant Tsurumi and Asirpa have successfully cracked the code, he and his men won’t require her anymore.
Shiraishi asks Sugimoto whether he wants to assist his friend’s widow. He won’t be able to achieve that without money.
However, it seems that Sugimoto has already reached a financial agreement to cover the cost of her necessary medical care. Shiraishi asserts that the only reason he is doing anything for Asirpa is to use that as a justification for having anything to guard.
Despite being aware of the dangers, he reiterates that he should back her if she wishes to lead the Ainu. Tsurumi arrives at Oodomari.
