Godzilla vs. Kong ended on a high note, with both Titans going their separate ways but coexisting within the same Monsterverse future. The film, which was announced back in 2015, finally saw the light of day after many delays with its release yesterday. It is the second movie featuring both characters after 1962’s King Kong vs. Godzilla.
Godzilla vs. Kong delves into many important aspects of the MonsterVerse franchise, which previously remained unknown.
1. What Is the Hollow Earth?
One of them is the Hollow Earth. As described in the movie, it is an open world situated deep within the earth and is connected by tunnels that provide passageways for the Titans to travel around the world at an inhuman speed. Given the discovery of Kong’s Throne and his ax, it becomes clear that Kong’s ancestors were the previous rulers of the Hollow Earth.
2. The Ancient War of Titans
This also brings in the history of the kaijus, who are teased to have been enemies. Kong’s ax, which is made up of dorsal spikes resembling Godzilla’s, hints at how both species fought thousands of years ago, with Kong’s ancestors becoming the winner. The ax can also block Godzilla’s iconic Atomic Breath, which helps Kong overpower him in their final battle.
3. Jia and Kong: Their Miraculous Bond
Another important connection in the movie is the one shared between Jia and Kong. The deaf girl introduced as the last surviving member of the Iwi tribe befriends Kong and communicates with him through sign language. Portrayed as a protective figure in most movies, Kong fights to ensure another human’s safety in Godzilla vs. Kong, too.
4. The Mechagodzilla Explained
By the end of the movie, the biggest mystery of all is brought to light. The Mechagodzilla is unveiled, created by none other than the deceased Ishiro Serizawa’s son, Ren Serizawa, who has joined APEX. The notorious organization which was able to acquire Ghidorah’s head used its neural pathways as a controlling agent of the Mechagodzilla. Its powers rivaled those of the original’s, even having its own version of the Atomic Breath.
5. Who Is MonsterVerse’s Alpha Titan?
Following their joint battle with the Mechagodzilla, Kong and Godzilla both acknowledge each other as equals and go their ways. Godzilla vs. Kong ends with both Titans heading to their respective homes and Kong becoming the King of the Hollow Earth.
However, that doesn’t necessarily guarantee them not crossing paths again. Perhaps, when the world is faced with another danger, the MonsterVerse could reunite both to another epic battle.
Damn! No streaming services found :/
