God of War Ragnarok has kept fans on their toes, and rightfully so, as it is the sequel to The Game Awards’ and BAFTA’s Game of the Year, God of War. Earlier, we got the news that God of War Ragnarok will be available for pre-order from July 15.
The game releases in several versions, of which the Jotnar Edition is the costliest at a £229.99 price tag. The Collector’s Edition costs £179.99, the Digital Deluxe edition costs £79.99, while PS5 copies cost £69.99, and PS4 £59.99.
This was a logical move from the developers as they knew many fans would be hoping to get their hands on any form of collector’s edition. But we didn’t expect them to be so eager that they grabbed all the pre-orders in just 5 minutes of going live. The collector’s edition lasted a bit longer as fans emptied the stocks within 30 minutes.
Moreover, both the editions started appearing on auction sites such as eBay, with some listings asking for more than double the retail price. Six listings on the site are already asking for £600 for the Jotnar Edition. While Collector’s Editions are going for around £250, and some are even trying to get above £300.
The situation is similar in other parts of the world. There are currently 13 listings of the Premium Jotnar edition on eBay Australia, almost all costing above 1000 AUD, with one of them even costing 1500 AUD. The retail price of the edition, you might ask? 400 AUD. [Text Wrapping Break]So that’s more than three times you will have to pay to get the Jotnar edition now.
In Italy, people couldn’t finish their purchases even though the game was in their basket. The game was available on GameStop for a few minutes before the status changed to ‘Coming Soon’.
It is still unclear when both editions will be restocked, though, with a massive demand like this, Sony will most probably make them available again.
Meanwhile, paying more than three times for the Jotnar edition might not be what people would prefer. But surely there will be fans who will still buy them. Until then, you can still pre-order the Base edition if you are interested in just playing the game. God of War Ragnarok will be available to play from November 9.
