When a game of any kind gets popular, it’s only a matter of time before a studio decides to turn it into a show or a movie. For better or for worse, we now know that a God Of War live-action adaptation will be coming to Amazon Prime Video.
According to a report, the company is currently negotiating for a new series based on the popular action-adventure game.
The project is led by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, creators and executive producers of sci-fi series The Expanse, and Rafe Judkins, executive producer, and showrunner of Prime Video’s The Wheel of Time as well as Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions. Sony will most likely co-executive produce alongside Amazon Studios.
God Of War was first released back in 2005 as a hack-and-slash title, but the 2018 reboot gave it more of an RPG mechanic. The sequel, God Of War Ragnarok, is currently in development and is slated for release sometime this year, but no official date has been provided yet.
The reboot gave Kratos a much different demeanor. While in the previous games, he was little more than a ball of rage seeking revenge against the gods of Olympus, Kratos now is a more hardened, brooding veteran doing everything he can to lead a peaceful life with his demi-god son Atreus.
The events in the reboot show that the Greek Spartan general will now be going up against gods from the Norse pantheon in God of War Ragnarok.
The news of the adaptation comes right after Peacock announced they had picked up the live-action adaptation of popular vehicular combat game Twisted Metal, also from Sony and PlayStation. God Of War will be the third show developed by Sony Pictures TV and PlayStation Productions. We still don’t know which era of Kratos the series will choose to depict, but all we can hope is they do a decent job.
