The Gintama manga series already ended a few months back, and the anime adaptation reached its finale with a movie titled “Gintama: The Final,” which hit the Japanese theatres on January 9, 2021.
The franchise is coming up with new promotional tactics to ensure that the legendary series ends with a bang. What’s better than using the most popular anime to increase the hype for the film?
Yes, that’s exactly what the franchise is doing. Demon Slayer special card featuring Tanjiro and all the Hashiras will be distributed for the whole first week of the screening.
The surprises for the viewers have not ended yet. A double-sided poster of Demon Slayer by Gintama mangaka, Hideaki Sorachi, will be presented to the attendants in the 4th week of Gintama: The Final movie.
The double-sided poster comprises of the full Demon Slayer visual and another visual featuring the Gintama characters.
Just to clarify, that the Hashiras and Tanjiro don’t actually appear in the Gintama film. This is just a promotional strategy to intensify the excitement for the “final battle” of the anime film.
Moreover, two Gintama special episodes, Gintama: Semi-Final, are set to air on January 15 and 20. The episodes are intended to introduce the anime film.
The fact that the ‘Semi-Final’ episodes will be released after the finale hit the theatres makes it obvious that you won’t have a problem understanding the plot if you are watching the film directly.
But the special episodes will surely come up with some new facts or even a different outlook to the film.
Sadly, the film may be the end to the funny adventures of Gintoki, but the world will never forget the laughter and joy that the series gave us over the years. Who knows, the author may still have a few surprises in store for us.
About Gintama
The story is set in an alternate-history late-Edo period, where humanity is attacked by aliens called ‘Amanto.’ Edo Japan’s samurai fight to defend Earth, but the shōgun cowardly surrenders when he realizes the aliens’ power.
He agrees to an unequal contract with the aliens, placing a ban on carrying swords in public and allowing the invaders to enter the country.
The samurai’s swords are confiscated, and the Tokugawa bakufu becomes a puppet government.
The series focuses on an eccentric samurai, Gintoki Sakata, who works as an odd-jobs freelancer. Although the story is mostly episodic, a few story arcs and recurring antagonists develop.
