Gigabyte Denies That Next-Gen AMD Ryzen CPUs Are Launching This Year

A few days back, Gigabyte posted a press release about their newest 1U servers which revealed that AMD will be releasing the successor to the Ryzen 7000 Desktop CPUs later this year.

That marked the first time a major company mentioned AMD’s next-gen CPUs which made it seem like a new line of chips were arriving this year but that’s not the case.

Gigabyte has now clarified that the statement they made about next-gen Ryzen CPUs launching this year was a mistake. In a response to TechRadar, the company confirmed the statement was indeed incorrect and a simple error in the choice of words.

Gigabyte’s reply on the matter:

“In an email, Gigabyte spokesperson Liam Quinn confirmed the wording was a mistake, and that the company “do not know when the Ryzen 7000 successor will be released”, adding it will “make a comment on the press release to clarify but keep our original wording”.”

Gigabyte has also seemingly updated their original statement about the next-gen Ryzen CPUs. You’ll find both of the statements below:

“Support for Future Generations of Processors (Original)

Even though these new products are entry-level servers, CPU support does not end here and the AM5 platform is supported until at least 2025. The next generation of AMD Ryzen desktop processors that will come out later this year will also be supported on this AM5 platform, so customers who purchase these servers today have the opportunity to upgrade to the Ryzen 7000 series successor.”

The mention of the AMD Ryzen Desktop CPU successor releasing later this year has been removed and the statement now simply says that the next-gen processors will be supported by their AM5 platform lineup. AMD will be launching their first products based on the Zen 5 core architecture codenamed Granite Rapids, after they’re done with Ryzen 7000.

AMD Desktop Roadmap– High Performance Momentum

The new chips will be a part of the Ryzen 8000 series and will employ a mix of 4nm and 3nm process nodes. Key features of the Zen 5 CPUs include:

  • Enhanced performance and efficiency
  • Re-pipelined front end and wide issue
  • Integrated AI and Machine Learning optimizations

So, as of now, no next-gen AMD Ryzen CPU is slated to release later this year, and one shouldn’t expect a new Ryzen Desktop CPU family until at least next year.
