According to a new TV Spot posted by @Ghostbusters official Twitter account, it has now been confirmed that the film won’t have a direct VoD release.
The clip is a montage of the ‘gunner seat’ bit with some other shots seen in the film’s official full-length trailers, as the end title cards read ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife. November. Exclusively In Movie Theatres.’
The film will be a sequel to 1989’s Ghostbusters II, another attempt after the 2016 version floored at the box office. Afterlife was initially set for a premiere in July last year and was pushed several times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It will follow a single mom and her two kids as they arrive in a small town. They begin to discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.
Produced by Ivan Reitman, who directed the original pic and its 1989 sequel, his son Jason Reitman directed and wrote the sequel.
The film stars Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon, Paul Rudd, and Mckenna Grace with Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts reprising their roles from the original films.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife had a surprise screening on August 23, 2021, at the 2021 CinemaCon event in Los Angeles.
Before the Afterlife screening, Reitman asked the audience for a show of hands for how many people were fans of the original Ghostbusters and said,
You are about to go on the biggest Easter egg hunt of all time. From the opening musical piece to the end of the end credits, and all I ask is, please, no spoilers… We’ve kept the ending secret so that people who come to your movie theaters (can discover it). I mean, if you like the movie, you can tell people that.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife will premiere in theatres on November 11, 2021.
