Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 anime series might have received some criticism, but now it has an opportunity to make a strong comeback with the compilation film.
The series was labeled the weakest installment in the franchise and did not receive the praise it expected. Instead, fans were disappointed by the overall result that came, primarily due to the animation.
The franchise has decided to release a compilation film of the series with some extra scenes and details.
Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 released MotokoKusanagi’s character PV for its compilation film, Sustainable Warfare, premiering on November 12, 2021, for a limited period screening of two weeks.
Motoko is the protagonist of the Ghost in the Shell franchise, who is a cyborg working in an anti-cybercrime unit of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission. In SAC_2045, Motoko and others of her team have disbanded, only to reunite when a crisis arises regarding a conspiracy.
The character PV includes scenes from the film featuring Motoko in action. In between the video, Motoko’s voice actor, Atsuko Tanaka, is discussing her character. She mentions how SAC_2045 has brought many changes to Motoko’s appearance while keeping her personality intact.
Atsuko’s take on Motoko’s character is upbeat and makes us see the female cyborg in a new light. I feel that the compilation film might be able to win back the fans they lost due to the series.
Moreover, Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 has a second season in the works for a 2022 release. Season 1 had a bittersweet yet incomplete ending which didn’t provide the necessary closure. I am excited to see what the next season has in store for us.
Moreover, I am curious about what kind of extra footage they have for us. Is it an easter egg? Or something that hints towards the next season?
I can’t wait to find that out and witness a new Motoko in the film. Although nothing beats the classic, a change sometimes is good too.
