Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away are jumping from the screens to the stage as it’s getting a stage play adaptation!

Prepare to be taken to the exciting world of spirits at the Imperial Theater with Chihiro.

The Spirited Away stage play’s official Twitter account has released two stunning posters featuring actresses playing Chihiro.

Today, we announced the production of the stage “Spirited Away”. Please see tomorrow’s “ZIP!”, “Refreshing”, “Mezamashi TV”, “Good! Morning”, “THE TIME” and other media for the interview. Starring as Chihiro in altering performances, Kanna Hashimoto, well known for her role in “Gintama,” and Mone Kamishiraishi, who starred in “Your Name,” will beautifully bring the home-bound girl to life.

The award-winning fantasy anime will bring Ghibli magic to TOHO’s Imperial Theatre from February to March 2022.

About Spirited Away

Spirited Away is a 2001 anime film by Studio Ghibli that won the Oscar in 2003. Hayao Miyazaki wrote and directed the acclaimed film.

The film is about a 10-year old girl, Chihiro, who enters the world of spirits. Her parents are turned into pigs by the witch Yubaba. As Chihiro works in Yubaba’s bathhouse to free her parents, she meets Haku, a boy who can turn into a dragon.
