Genshin Impact, Mihoyo’s 100 million-dollar-baby, has garnered tremendous popularity since its release in September 2020. Naturally, this popularity has brought in some unsavory elements that are known to target players with a range of online frauds.
Since the game is heavily dependent on microtransactions, scammers seek out those that have racked up thousands of dollars in spending and hack or phish out their account details. Players subsequently lose access to their accounts and are unable to get a refund from Mihoyo which has led to countless complaints and dissatisfied gamers. As a result, Mihoyo is finally taking the necessary action to counter these issues.
This action comes in the form of two-factor authentication which will be a part of the game’s latest update. Login attempts from new devices will have to be verified before anyone can gain access to Mihoyo accounts.
To further improve your account security, we are adjusting our current security verification functions.” Mihoyo said on it’s website.
“After 5/17 18:00 (UTC+8), a new security verification function will take effect when you log in. Once this function is active, a verification code will be sent to your linked email address or mobile number when you log in to a new device to ensure that it is you using that device. In that event, please ensure that all the information is correct.”

As with all two factor authentication systems, the verification code will be unique every time and will need to be typed in for any non-approved device. You can manage your login devices on your Mihoyo account via Account > Account Management > Login Devices.
Additionally, Mihoyo has asked all Genshin Impact players to update their profiles with email and mobile phone numbers now so that they can enable two-factor authentication.
