General Hospital cast member Steve Burton confirms on Instagram that he was fired from the show due to his refusal to take the Covid-19 vaccine. Burton plays the fan-favorite Jason Morgan on the show.
In August, Burton had contracted Covid-19, after which co-star Ingo Rademacher expressed his immense opposition to the vaccine on Instagram. This was not at all well-received by fans as well as co-star Nancy Lee Grahn.
Then this November, General Hospital implemented the Zone A mandate that required the actors and crew on set (when actors are not wearing their masks) to be vaccinated.
It was expected that Rademacher would be the only one to go. However, it seems like Burton has joined him too. Burton took to Instagram to address the situation directly, confirming he was let go. He also states that he had applied for exemption due to medical and religious reasons, but the same had been denied.
If Burton is bitter about the situation, he doesn’t show it in the video, saying he is grateful for his time in General Hospital, as he has always been. He hopes that if the mandate is lifted, he can come back and properly finish off his character’s story.

Burton has been playing the character of Jason Morgan on General Hospital since 1991. Although he has played the role for almost 15 years, he has had contract issues in the past that caused him to depart the show in 2012.
After a gap of almost five years, Burton returned to reprise his role in 2017. During his hiatus, the role was taken by other actors, with the General Hospital’s narrative adjusting to these developments.
(In fact, recasts and comebacks are a no biggie in long-running daytime soaps)
In Burton’s last episode for General Hospital, a tunnel collapsed over his character. It is left to see if that’s where it ends for Jason Morgan. Or if he will live to see the light of day, albeit with a new face.
