Gege Fails to do Justice to Jujutsu Kaisen’s Favorite Character, Gojo Deserved a Better Ending

The treatment of the fan-favorite character Gojo Satoru in the final chapters of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga series has left many fans deeply disappointed. As the strongest sorcerer in the series, Gojo’s role was significant, often central to the narrative, and he served as a mentor and crucial ally for the heroes in their times of need. Despite being a supporting character, Gojo’s popularity often rivaled, if not exceeded, that of the series itself. His demise in Chapter 236 at the hands of Sukuna has left readers speculating about a potential resurrection, a hope that was not fulfilled.

The anticipation for Gojo’s return in the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom was palpable, to say the least. Many fans were eagerly awaiting his comeback in the final chapter, only to find that their numerous theories and hints were in vain. When Gojo finally did make an appearance, it was in a way that caught everyone off-guard, leaving them in a state of shock and devastation.

Fans Were Given False Hope About Gojo’s Return One Too Many Times

Many readers speculated that Gege was planning to bring Satoru Gojo back based on the noticeable absence of his name in the last chapters. Nevertheless, the progression leading to a solitary flashback ultimately disappointed fans, prompting them to voice their dissatisfaction with how Gojo was portrayed in the narrative on the internet.

While it’s not the comeback fans expected, it’s achingly sad. Gojo is featured in a flashback, talking to Yuji about his innermost thoughts. During the flashback, Gojo assures Yuji that he, too, has love and dreams like any other person, and he hopes to be remembered, even though he acknowledges that everyone will eventually move on.

Yuji is offended at the statement and says he won’t forget Gojo, but Gojo tells him it’s only for now and eventually Yuji will forget him too. However, Gojo motivates Yuji to keep going, sharing how he has high hopes for his student.

This moment in the conclusion of Jujutsu Kaisen is enough to bring readers to tears. The moment offers us one last look at the beloved character and reveals his perspective on himself. Gojo has constantly experienced loneliness (except for his time with Geto), and his words to Yuji highlight this heartbreaking truth once more. Fans are not just disappointed, but heartbroken by Gojo’s appearance in Chapter 271, particularly because many were anticipating his survival, similar to Nobara and Higuruma.

Not Even a Single Burial Scene Makes the “Gege Hates Gojo” Joke Seem Too Real

Many fans were anticipating that the supposed leaks of Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 271 would imply the potential return of Gojo or, at the very least, his proper burial as a less favorable but still plausible outcome. Nevertheless, even though he was the most influential character in the series, he only briefly appeared in a flashback.

Although the complete ending of Jujutsu Kaisen hasn’t been released at the time of writing, there has been no funeral held for Gojo to commemorate his sacrifices in the pivotal battle of the series, leaving a bitter feeling for readers regarding this aspect of the storyline.

Numerous fans voiced their opinion that Gojo’s character deserved far more favorable treatment. They also stated that Gege would never stop hearing about Gojo despite allegedly disliking the character. Some people stated that throughout the final chapter, Gojo was viewed solely as a weapon, and there was no depiction of his students or friends grieving for him.

Some theorized that Gege purposely included Gojo in only one flashback in the last chapter to dispel fans’ hope that Gojo would finally return. Fans also pointed out that despite being crucial to Jujutsu Kaisen’s success, Satoru Gojo, the most powerful sorcerer, was affected by subpar storytelling and plot decisions. Gojo’s character was not just a part of the series, but a cornerstone of its success, and his treatment in the final chapters was a disservice to his importance.

Some argued that, unlike Megumi’s sister who received closure with a scene depicting her grave and Megumi burying her, no such resolution was given to Gojo. Many felt that Gege’s dislike for Gojo was better handled when it was treated as a lighthearted joke rather than affecting the story. The Gege hating Gojo jokes were funnier when they were just humorous quips instead of impacting the plot.

Pay for the Fandom’s Therapy Gege

Many fans believe that Gege Akutami mishandled Satoru Gojo’s character in the final chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen, leaving his death unresolved. Nevertheless, the manga artist had no issues incorporating a flashback between him and the main character, Yuji Itadori, providing further depth to Satoru’s character as he truly desires the success of his students.

However, some readers have confidently voiced their differing opinions on Gege Akutami’s handling of Gojo’s character development in Chapter 271. They believe he turned Gojo into a mockery by giving him a disappointing and inappropriate resolution.

Though the rest of the characters have seemingly forgotten Gojo – as he’s hardly mentioned by anyone after the Shinjuku Showdown – he’ll forever remain the most beloved character in Jujutsu Kaisen.
