Gamescom video game trade fair, which is the world’s largest gaming event highlight for interactive games and entertainment, won’t be getting a physical Gamescom presentation this year, yet again.
Gamescom’s on-site event last year was canceled following Germany’s nationwide ban on major events due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19. The organizers held a digital Gamescom event in its place.
The coronavirus outbreak is causing a lot of events to be postponed indefinitely or even get canceled. The same thing is happening to the Gamescom event, just like the last year.
The German Games Industry Association announced that it has canceled the on-site portion of this year’s Gamescom video game trade fair and is instead running a free, all-digital event in August.
The organizers had initially announced this year’s fair to be a hybrid event, including both on-site and digital portions, but now it will be digital-only.
The reason for cancelation is that too many companies can’t participate in physical events due to the “still difficult development.”
Devcom for game developers will start on August 23. Then the Gamescom event will start with Gamescom: Opening Night Live with host Geoff Keighley on August 25. The main event days will be on August 26-27.
The event will also feature Gamescom Epix, a community campaign that will allow fans to “immerse themselves in the Gamescom universe.”
This is the second recent, formerly physical event to mention going all-digital and free for the sake of safety and security concerns. The ESA confirmed E3 2021 would be an online-only event back in April 2021.
People can tune in at the official website for free to take part in the experiences. Additional announcements about its streams and virtual events will appear leading up to the event.
In August, the worldwide gaming community will come together at Gamescom 2021 to celebrate the latest game titles and the most exciting news about games.
