Action role-playing video game Nioh was created by Team Ninja. It was published by Koei Tecmo in Japan and Sony Interactive Entertainment globally for the PlayStation 4 in February 2017. On November 7, 2017, Koei Tecmo published a version of the game including the downloadable content for the PlayStation 4 and Windows. On February 5, 2021, a remastered version was made available for the PlayStation 5.
The storyline of William Adams, an Irish sailor named after and drawn to the historical William Adams, an Englishman who turned samurai, is set in a fictionalised version of the year 1600. As Tokugawa Ieyasu attempts to reunite Japan, which is hindered by the rise of yokai that are blossoming in the turmoil of war, Adams pursues the sorcerer Edward Kelley into the last wars of the Sengoku era.
