Frieren, Stark and Fern reach the Village of the Sword, where Frieren has duties to fulfil. A new revelation about Himmel is made. Himmel was not like how the stories had made him out to be.
Stark has turned eighteen, and Fern and Frieren celebrate his birthday in their own way. Stark finds out more about his brother and his master. Here are the latest updates.
1. Episode 13 Release Date
Episode 13 of ‘Sousou no Frieren’ will be released on Friday, December 1, 2023. It is a weekly anime, and new episodes are released every Friday. You can watch ‘Sousou no Frieren’ anime on Crunchyroll.

2. Episode 13 Speculation
Frieren, Fern, and Stark are still travelling the Northern Plateaus. However, Frieren still does not have the certification from the Continental Magic Association acknowledging her. The trio will keep moving forward.
As told by Graht sometime ago, an exam is being conducted on their way to the Plateaus, so Frieren must participate to earn the certificate. We might find out more about Frieren’s past as well.
3. Recap of episode 12
Episode 12 of ‘Sousou no Frieren’ is titled “A Real Hero.” Twenty-nine years after the death of Himmel, the Hero, Frieren, Stark and Fern are travelling through the Northern Mountains. Frieren is falling asleep on her feet while walking. By the time Fern tells Stark, Frieren has already fallen asleep. Stark offers to carry her in his arms, but Fern refuses, carrying Frieren herself.
When Frieren was travelling with Himmel, they were on a mission to kill the Demon King. Himmel had a replica of the Hero’s Sword that a merchant gifted him. Himmel saved the merchant from a monster, and the merchant gave him the sword, calling him a future hero. Himmel plans to acquire a real Hero’s Sword and defeat the Demon King.
Frieren wakes up, realizing she was dreaming about her times with Himmel. Stark asks Fern to let him carry Frieren as she must be tired, but Fern refuses. They make it to the Village of the Sword. The Chief welcomes them. Stark reveals that this village is known to protect the Hero’s Sword.
The only hero who could draw the sword is the one who will drive off great calamity. Himmel was the only hero who could draw the sword. Frieren was supposed to come half a century earlier to exterminate monsters. However, Frieren plans to start her duties immediately since she was late.
Fern, Stark and Frieren start killing the monsters. Stark notices many monsters crowding a cave entrance, and he goes to check, but he is attacked by the lord of the monsters. The trio gets rid of the monsters. Stark asks about the Hero’s Sword that is still inside the cave. He is confused as Himmel is supposed to have taken it.
Frieren reveals that, in reality, Himmel failed to pull the sword. Himmel swore to save the world without the sword, as being a fake or a real hero did not matter to him. True to his words, he saved the world and became a true hero. However, people romanticized his existence and made him sound different than he actually was.
The trio reaches a town in the Appetit region. Frieren tells Fern that it is Stark’s eighteenth birthday. Fern is surprised and annoyed that Frieren did not tell her earlier. Fern goes to visit Stark, but he is not in his room. She asks around the town and finds out that he has been helping many people.
Fern finally finds Stark and asks him to go on a walk with her. Stark follows obediently, wondering if Fern is mad at him. When Fern asks him what he wants for his birthday, he reveals he has never gotten a birthday present before.
Stark has always lived under the shadow of his older brother, Stoltz. Stark abandoned him and ran when the village was attacked. So, he thinks he does not deserve birthday presents because he is a coward. Fern tells him to come pick a present as the Stark she knows is not a coward.
Fern and Stark choose a gift and return, only to find Frieren cooking big hamburger steaks. Frieren tells Stark the hamburger steaks are supposed to honor warriors who have worked hard. Stark remembers Stoltz making him hamburgers on his birthday, too. He is content and grateful.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is a manga by Yamada and Tsukasa Abe. It was launched in April 2020, and went on to win several prizes.
The story starts when a group of heroes come back home after defeating a demon. Frieren, an elf mage, has hundreds of years ahead of her due to her long lifespan.
She is destined to lose all her friends and comrades eventually. However, at the funeral of one of her past comrades, she realizes that she has a new adventure ahead of her.
