Kyoto Animation has outdone itself with the Free! franchise. The series has attracted fujoshi’s ever since it began airing. Fans have come up with so many ships among the characters that it is hard to even keep count.
So, here we are with a new movie to fuel your imagination even more!
Kyoto Animation has just announced a two-part movie for the Free! Anime series. The project is titled Free! The Final Stroke.
As you might have guessed from the title, the film is being marketed as the last addition to the franchise. I can hear hearts shattering in the distance but we have to be patient to see if it is really the final movie or not.
The first part of the movie will premiere in Japan on 17th September 2021 and the second part will premiere on 22nd April 2022. A short trailer has also been revealed for the upcoming movies:
The trailer shows us shots from different parts of the franchise as we are flooded with nostalgia. It also shows the movies’ tagline, “Let’s go, to the stage of glory.”
Free!’s spotless animation never fails to bowl us over and the trailer reminds us of the refreshing swimming matches yet again.
A new visual was also revealed in which Haruka is seen looking back in a cool pose.
I must admit, both the trailer and the visual look like they are trying to wrap up the series. With a returning staff and cast, the two-part film is bound to be another joyride.
The movie was announced in August, last year, and is facing a delayed release.
Free!’s reviews will tell you that the anime packs a huge punch under all the glamour surrounding it. Will the upcoming film really be the final installment and break the hearts of fans?
About Free!
Free! is animated by Kyoto Animation and is loosely based on the light novel, High Speed!, by Koji Oji.
The series revolves around members of a high school boy’s swimming team. The youngsters participate in a swimming tournament right before they graduate from middle school and go their separate ways.
Free! has a unique concept by using the sport of competitive swimming as their focal point. The animation, art, and sound used in the series complement the story well.
