Ryan Reynolds has portrayed his fair share of superheroes, including Green Lantern, Deadpool, and now an NPC-turned-Hero in his upcoming film Free Guy.
That’s not all; looking at his new ‘transformation,’ Marvel might just hire him for playing Hulk someday. In a new promo for Free Guy, Reynolds is up against a huge enemy. It’s Ryan himself, but more like a super jacked version of him.
In the clip, Taika Waititi’s character Antwan launches ‘Dude’ to combat Reynolds’s Guy. Dude is blonde, tall, probably more built than The Rock himself, and has a unique catchphrase that’s literally just ‘catchphrase’… the word.
Guess one could call him the ‘Perfect Guy.’
The video also makes fun of behind-the-scenes footage with Reynolds telling us about how he has grown ‘mentally, emotionally and hormonally.’ And also casually reveals his new ‘cannibalistic’ diet, no big deal.
But the sad, truly awful reveal comes when he tells us that post his transformation into Dude, he can no longer fit into the Deadpool costume. Well, Marvel better get to work if they want to fit Deadpool 2.0 in a newer, bigger suit.
Another promo released last month saw Deadpool and Korg react to the Free Guy trailer while also complaining about Marvel’s Disney+ shows. Maybe Korg can take Wade Wilson over to the MCU with Thor: Love and Thunder.
The sci-fi action-comedy takes place in Free City, an open-world video game in which Guy, a non-player character, gains self-awareness and becomes the surprise hero of the story.
It looks like director Shawn Levy has managed to blend together The Truman Show, GTA, and Deadpool into one explosive movie. And if we were to trust the early reviews, it has definitely worked, as they have all been positive so far.
Initially set for a release last year, the film has been delayed for more than a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Free Guy will finally have an exclusive theatrical release next week on August 13.
