Genshin Impact to give a Free 5-Star Character in 5.0 update: Whom to choose?

After years of requests from fans, Genshin Impact is finally offering a free 5-star character on its 4th anniversary in September 2024. Not only are they giving a free 5-star but also an additional 10-pulls. Apart from that, they are also adding some quality-of-life changes.

If you have played Genshin for quite some time, you may have lost some 5050s while pulling for an event 5-star character and obtained a few standard ones. However, this anniversary, if you want to get a new one or maybe some constellations but don’t know which one is worth getting, this guide is for you.

1. Which free 5-star character should you choose in Genshin Impact 5.0?

Players can choose any one character they like or want the most. However, Tighnari and Jean are the best characters that players can choose in Genshin Impact 5.0.

There will be 7 standard characters available to choose from the free 5-star selector during Genshin Impact 2024 anniversary. They are as follows-

  • Tighnari
  • Dehya
  • Qiqi
  • Keqing
  • Jean
  • Mona
  • Diluc

2. All the Standard 5-star characters ranked

Below, we have ranked all the best standard characters, from worst to best, that you can choose during the anniversary.

2.1 Qiqi

Qiqi

Qiqi and Dehya are the least useful characters in this list. Qiqi’s Cryo application and energy regeneration is very low. The cooldown of her moves is also very high, making all the other characters much more viable than her.

Get Qiqi only if you like her or want any of her constellations, especially her C6, which revives all the fallen members of your team.

2.2 Dehya

Dehya

Dehya is quite decent, but not viable to any teams. She can be a DPS or support character that absorbs damage and provides interruption. However, her scalings are not as high as other DPS characters in the game. Neither can she replace a shielder or healer in terms of damage mitigation. Her energy regeneration is also very low making her even worse.

She is currently only usable in Buring teams, but many better alternatives exist. She becomes slightly better at C1 and a lot better at C6. So, if you like her or want any of these cons, feel free to get her.

2.3 Keqing

Keqing

Keqing is an Electro 5-star DPS that works with any Aggravate teams. She can be a decent option if you lack electro DPS, but if you already have one, she won’t be very useful because of her low-damage multipliers. Her C4 makes her better as it grants 25% ATK when triggering Electro reactions, which she always does.

2.4 Diluc

Diluc

Diluc was the first ever 5-star DPS character that was quite enjoyed by all the payers when Genshin was released. However, as time passed, many new characters were introduced, eventually power creeping Diluc.

Diluc has the highest plunge multipliers in the game, but no characters could trigger the mechanics until the release of Xianyun. Xianyun can boost any character’s plunge damage, making Diluc much more viable today. So, if you plan to build a plunge carry team, then Diluc will be your best choice.

2.5 Mona

Mona is a support and sub-DPS character that works well with any team. She can provide massive buffs to the next character with a 3-star weapon and her ultimate. Her ultimate also deals a huge amount of nuke damage to the enemies and de-buffs them for some time.

Players use her widely for overworld exploration and character nuke damage showcases. Her C1 and C4 are the best constellations to get. C1 increases any hydro-related reactions, and C4 grants time wide CRIT Rate bonus. Pull her if you like big numbers on your screen.

2.6 Jean

Jean

Jean is a great Anemo support who can heal the entire team in a second or two. With the release of Furina, she has gained a lot of relevance. Furina is universal support and requires a healer who can heal time-wide. Not only does Jean fulfill the role perfectly, but she can also swirl and shred enemy Res with the Viridescent Venerer artifact set.

Jean gets even stronger with her C2 and C4. C2 increases the speed of the characters, and C4 shreds Anemo Res by a lot. Overall, Jean is one of the best characters that players might want to choose.

2.7 Tighnari

Tighnari

Tighnari is the best out of the seven standard characters that players can choose from. He is not only beginner-friendly but also easy to build and understand. He also deals good damage in the late game.

Tighnari relies on dealing damage with his charged attack, which further breaks down into shards of Dendro attack. His ultimate is also spammable, and he can generate a lot of energy. C4 is his best constellation as ig grants teamwide elemental mastery.

3. Conclusion

Get Tighnari if you want a good DPS character, or Jean if you want a versatile healer to use alongside Furina. Mona is a good choice if you love nuking enemies with bigger numbers. Diluc and Keqing are also decent options, but there are alternatives. Lastly, try to avoid Qiqi and Dehya.
