Studio Ghibli Festival Comes Back to The US in 2021 with Four Movies in Tow

Craving that movie theatre experience ever since the pandemic struck? Well, what better way to restart than some sweet old Ghibli movies, as Ghibli Fest 2021 kicks off this October.

Ghibli Fest is an event that was started by Gkids and Fathom events back in 2017. The intent was to celebrate everything Ghibli by distributing their content throughout the US.

While it was a huge success in 2018 and 2019, unfortunately, the 2020 iteration had to be canceled due to ‘you know what.’ However, it is ready for a comeback now.

The official website for Gkids has announced the Studio Ghibli Fest 2021, from October 2021 to December 2021 in movie theatres across the US.

Studio Ghibli Festival 2021 will screen four movies as per the following schedule:

MovieScreening Date
Spirited Away October 3-6, 2021
Howl’s Moving Castle October 24-28, 2021
Castle in The Sky November 14-18, 2021
My Neighbour Totoro December 5-9, 2021

The 4th iteration of the festival is set to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Hayao Miyazaki’s Oscar-winning film, Spirited Away, and the 35th anniversary of the film, Castle in The Sky.

Both the English dubbed and subbed versions of the respective films will be shown at each event, including exclusive bonus content.

Tickets for the event will be available online from July 16, 2021, on the Fathom Events Website.

Ghibli films are one of the few works which transcend the boundaries of anime. Even people outside the anime sphere are aware of them and enjoy them the same way a fan would.

Even though these films are available on streaming platforms, there is something special about the experience of watching a film with like-minded people in an enclosed space.

After the events of last year, that special experience is something we all need. So make sure you keep your winter weekends free for a wonderful change of pace with Ghibli.
