Four Cyberpunk 2077 Lawsuits Against CDPR Have Been Clubbed into One

There’s a fresh twist to developer CD Projekt Red’s post Cyberpunk 2077 nightmares: four separate lawsuits against the Polish company will now be combined into one mega lawsuit in order to facilitate court proceedings.

CDPR provided the news through a translated blog post.

“According to information obtained from a law firm cooperating with the Company, the court has consolidated the lawsuits and appointed a lead plaintiff. Following this consolidation, all four lawsuits will be subject to potential common court proceedings.”

Two of the four lawsuits, which were first filed in December 2020 and January 2021, come from CDPR investors themselves. The investors claim that they were misled on the game’s overall state and playability on last-gen Xbox and PlayStation consoles. The other two lawsuits were not outlined by CDPR but seeing that they are grouped together with the aforementioned filings, it is possible that they are of a similar nature.

After the filing of the second lawsuit, CDPR said in January that it would “take vigorous action to defend itself”; an approach that could have been avoided had CDPR given due focus to the game’s performance on previous gen consoles.

Cyberpunk 2077 dropped for all platforms in September 2020 to favourable reviews at first. Once the game reached the hands of actual players is when the facade began to crumble.

Even after a lengthy 7-year development period, the game came with umpteen bugs and AI issues, and also crashed multiple times on almost every platform. While the problems were still a little understated and could be circumvented on high-end PCs and new-gen consoles, the game was virtually unplayable on PS4 and Xbox One prompting a massive refund drive.

CDPR messed up with the refund drive too as at first when they asked players to reach out directly to Sony to request refunds for their digital copies of Cyberpunk. This led to Sony removing the game from the PS Store altogether; a first for any PS title ever released.

While the game saw a cool 13 million copies sold by December in spite of refunds, these numbers took a severe hit in 2021 with the game’s continued absence on the PS store being a major contributor.

Due to the release of several small and big updates(with many more of those to come), Cyberpunk is now running slightly better on all platforms. However, one thing is for sure: CDPR still has A LOT left to do in order to live up to the hype that they themselves created. Let’s hope it won’t take them another seven years to do it.

About Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is a 2020 action role-playing video game developed by CD Projekt Red and published by CD Projekt, based on video game designer Mike Pondsmith’s game series.

Set in a dystopian cyberpunk universe, the player assumes the role of “V,” a mercenary in the fictional Californian city known as “Night City,” where they deal with the fallout from a heist gone wrong that results in an experimental cybernetic “bio-chip” containing an engram of the legendary rock star and terrorist Johnny Silverhand (played by Keanu Reeves) threatening to slowly overwrite V’s mind; as the story progresses V and Johnny must work together to find a way to be separated and save V’s life.
