Earlier this week, gamers got a first look at Playground Games’ Forza Horizon 5, the highly-anticipated fifth installment in the Forza series.
The trailer and gameplay breakdown that was streamed at E3 2021’s Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase detailed the game’s extensive open-world map, a brand new Expedition mode, new gameplay features, and much more.
One of the highlights of the reveal was ‘Events Lab,’ which Horizon’s Creative Director Mike Brown described as an “incredible new toolset that allows you to create your own races, game modes, and gameplay experiences.”
Keeping the gameplay demo under consideration, Brown’s description of the feature is no exaggeration. The demo shows a custom map with giant bowling pins, which you have to bring down with your cars by using them as bowling balls.
So, Events Lab will not only let you develop your own racing event or championship, but will also let you create a unique map or competition from scratch. The feature will also allow you to draft your own rules for the event.
That’s a whole lot of creative freedom to experiment with. It will be fascinating to see what kind of mini-games players come up with because, with new-gen tech at their disposal, the final results could be pretty spectacular.
We already have plenty of examples of this in games like Valheim, where players are pushing the game’s crafting mechanics to new heights.
Forza Horizon 5 is set to feature the series’ most diverse and extensive map yet. The map will be set in Mexico and include all kinds of terrain to race on across urban and natural landscapes.
The urban aspects will be provided by the colorful city of Guanajuato, which is central to the game’s map. At the same time, those looking for a rev in the wild will have mountains, beaches, and even a volcano ready and waiting.
The game will also arrive on Xbox Game Pass at launch, so those who have subscribed to the service are in for a treat.
