Summary
- Developers Epic Games had initially encountered an unexpected issue during server maintenance for the upcoming Chapter 5 Season 2 of Fortnite.
- They had announced that the servers would be down for an additional eight hours because of the issue.
- However, they managed to get the servers up and running within 6 hours, and the latest Season is live now.
Zeus is known for his wrath and his mighty bolt of lightning. However, it seems that this time, he might have to wait along with his band of Greek Gods and Goddesses to make their appearance on Fortnite’s latest season.
Ahead of Fortnite’s Chapter 5 Season 2, called Myths and Mortals, which was supposed to bring Greek Gods into the fray, the server maintenance has encountered some “unexpected issue,” prompting developers Epic Games to extend the downtime by eight hours, which now stands at noon ET on March 8th. However, the Season has just gone live about an hour and a half ahead of schedule at 10:30 am ET.

The developers have apologized and clarified that this unexpected issue might not be resolved in the eight extra hours. However, with some commendable work, they did not have to postpone it further.
Delays at the beginning of the Season are pretty common to Fortnite, given the vast codebase that the developers have to work with and other factors like the server strength and how to scale it based on the estimations for future seasons.

However, the mere time frame of 8 hours shows that the developers are confident in solving the bug, and while it’s a major hiccup that requires attention, it will not be game-breaking.
Players need to keep their expectations low once the issue is resolved. This is because, historically, Fortnite has experienced huge traffic spikes when delayed content was released, resulting in quite huge queues.
Season 2 of Chapter 5 will last until May 24th and is heavily influenced by Greek mythology. The developers are trying to induce excitement in the fandom by doing away with the generic spy-themes and introducing some lore. Once the issue is fixed, this season promises to be a breath of fresh air that the franchise requires.
