AMD has used its Polaris architecture in cards like the Radeon RX 480(2016), Radeon RX 580(2017), and Radeon RX 590(2018). These graphics cards were powered by Polaris 10, Polaris 20, and Polaris 30 GPUs, respectively.
Reddit user @xCuri0 reported that AMD Polaris architecture (Radeon RX 400/500) is not compatible with Forspoken since the game’s requirements list higher versions of the API functions.
Even though the architecture supports DirectX12 graphics API, Forspoken requires a higher Feature Level. These Feature Levels include some exclusive capabilities and technologies. The highest level is the Ultimate (12_2) which is compatible with Turing, RDNA2 and Xe-HPG architecture.
Earlier, AMD introduced the Radeon RX 400 series with DirectX12 support for 12_0 Feature Level. Higher levels are supported by GCN5 and NVIDIA Maxwell architecture on GM107 and GM108.
Mid-range GPUs are not designed for intense games like Forspoken. Whether or not they should be optimized for such is a controversial topic. Some games require an even higher Feature Level, such as Metro Exodus Enhanced.
