Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma is one of the best anime in its genre and is on its way to becoming a classic. The series brings us entertainment not just through storytelling but also through its unforgettable characters and, most notably, “THE FOOD!”.
Food Wars is a food battle anime series where one can officially challenge anyone to a cooking duel to settle debates and arguments. This food-focused series ran from April 2015 to September 2020 and adapted the manga of the same name by Yuto Tsukuda.
The story follows a hopeful teenager, Soma Yukihira, who aspires to become a full-time chef in his father’s family restaurant. All Soma wants to do is surpass his father’s cooking skills, who is a genius for cooking.
However, fate has something else in store for him.
He enrolls in Totsuki Saryo Culinary Institute, an elite institute where students engage in cooking battles. This is where his real journey begins of how he hones his skills and make a name for himself in the culinary world.
And how on his way, he made new friends such as Erina Nakiri, Megumi Tadokoro, and other members from his Polaris Dormitory, quietly influencing the people around him.
But is this epic journey really over?
Review of Season 5
Season 5 was straight to the point with no appetizers. It ended with the BLUE tournament reaching its climax, with Soma vs. Erina. Erina won the BLUE, with Soma taking over second place, but that wasn’t the real victory.
The real victory for Erina was that the Nakiri curse was finally broken and how that brought the Nakiri family back together. All of this was possible because of Soma and his friendship with Nakiri.
The way Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma ended has made many mixed feelings for the fans. Some were disappointed at how new elements were added instead of sticking with the original manga. In contrast, some liked it and were sad about how a fantastic series came to an end.
Will There be Another Plate Served?
Studio J.C Staff, the ones behind this amazing anime series, officially stated that it had ended Food Wars. Unfortunately, this is hard to digest as there won’t be a sixth serving of the anime.
Ever since the last season ended in September 2020, fans have signed several petitions and started a social media campaign to bring back another serving of Food Wars.
Thus, this may change the mind of the people behind Food Wars and bring back a new season, OVA, or a new movie to look forward to.
Is There Enough Source Material for a New Season?
Season 5 had consumed the last arc of the manga. However, they have skipped out a lot of spin-offs from the manga in Season 5.
We will likely see an OVA or a spin-off series coming up since Season 5 was trimmed down. If we are lucky enough, we might get to see new content from the creators, which will be a feast for the eyes.
With all the positivity and hopefulness from Food Wars loyal fans, we may get to see some good news pretty soon.
