The Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma is a Japanese culinary-themed manga series written by Yūto Tsukuda and illustrated by Shun Saeki. The literary work was published from November 2012 to June 2019 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump.
In 2015, the series received an anime adaptation produced by J.C Staff and directed by Yoshitomo Yonetani.
The Food Wars! series is on its fifth and final season titled, “Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma: The Fifth Plate”. As of now, the new season has aired a total of 11 episodes.
The currently released episode 11, titled “The Taste of Failure” shows the showdown between Soma and Asahi. The theme of their battle is to create a dish that has elements from five cuisines of the world.

The preview of episode 12 titled, “The Perfect Rocks” was not revealed at the end of the current episode.
Based on the ending of episode 11, the victor from the cooking battle between Asahi and Soma will finally be revealed. We will also see what Mana’s intentions are based on the results of the competition.

I. Azami Speaks His Truth:
As the match between Asahi and Soma progresses, Alice and Hisako escort Azami to the tournament, where he expresses the reason and truth behind his inexplicable behavior.
He explains that his actions were solely intended to protect his daughter, Erina, and ensure that she will not suffer the same fate as her mother and his wife, Mana who has an unhealthy obsession for culinary perfection.
II. Soma vs. Asahi: The Five Elements
As the episode reaches its peak, Asahi completes his highly-skilled and complex dish – a French basty filled with shark fin soup, Indian spices, and ravioli filled with Turkish dondurma. Asahi’s fine techniques reflected in his dish and impressed not only the judges but even the demanding Mana.
Now it’s Soma’s turn to reveal his dish. He shocks the judges and all those witnessing the competition as he puts forth a simple dish of fried rice that is combined with Chinese dongpo pork, Italian acqua pazza, Indian poriyal, French mirepoix, and Turkish pilaf. Soma takes an unbelievable risk combining such eccentric flavors.
He uses an incredible strategy of using mayonnaise and coating every individual pilaf grain in a thin coat of egg yolk to lock their flavor in. Soma concludes that the reason he is confident in his dish is that it has “the taste of failure” as he learned from his mother’s mistakes.

The series was first broadcast in Japan on Tokyo MX. We follow the story of fifteen-year-old Souma Yukihira, who has helped his father by working as the sous chef.
His dream was someday to own his family’s restaurant as its head chef. Yet when his father suddenly decides to close the restaurant to test his cooking abilities in restaurants around the world, he sends Souma to Totsuki Culinary Academy.
In this elite cooking school, only 10 percent of the students graduate. The institution is famous for its “Shokugeki” or “food wars,” where students face off in intense, high-stakes cooking showdowns. As Souma and his new schoolmates struggle to survive the extreme lifestyle of Totsuki, more significant challenges await him, putting his years of learning under his father to the test.
