Kill. All. Gods.
Well, that’s literally your main goal in Flintlock, but there’s more to it. Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn transports players to the world of Kian, where the living, the dead, and the Gods collide.
As Nor Vanek, a skilled and seasoned sapper, you embark on a perilous journey across this war-torn city to protect humanity from the brink of destruction, fighting against the relentless forces of chaos and devastation that threaten to consume everything in their path.
Get a headstart in Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn with this beginner’s guide, featuring essential tips and strategies to master combat, side activities, and character upgrades.
1. Your Reputation Precedes You
In Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, the reputation system plays a crucial role in your progression as it allows you to upgrade weapons, unlock skills, and more.
Earn Reputation by defeating enemies, where every hit score is then multiplied by a modifier that increases with combat and exploration. However, taking damage resets the multiplier, and you’ll only receive the base reputation value.
Reputation Multiplier System
To amplify your Reputation multiplier, master the dynamic combat system by executing intricate combos, dodging enemy attacks with precision, and utilizing Nor’s extensive moveset.
The higher your Reputation multiplier, the more currency you’ll earn from defeating enemies, akin to the Souls series’ renowned souls/runes system.
Be mindful of taking damage, as it will reset the multiplier. Fortunately, any banked Reputation will be retained, allowing you to build upon your progress.
Retrieving Reputation After Death
It’s important to note that if your character perishes, you can retrieve your lost Reputation by returning to the location of your defeat, which is marked by a distinctive glowing circle and skull.
However, if you suffer another defeat during this attempt, your lost Reputation will be permanently forfeited.
Earn Reputation Fast
There are other ways to earn Reputation safely, like:
- Utilize void rifts, sliding down slopes, landing musket shots, and lobbing grenades to boost your multiplier.
- Activate ancestor statues to increase enemy defeat reputation gains.
- Explore for Conscript items, which can be used to exchange for reputation.
- Play Sebo and defeat Baz to earn Sebo, which converts to reputation.
2. Master Combat and Your Skills
Nor boasts an impressive array of combat techniques:
- Dodging: Use the Shift key to perform a swift sidestep or backstep, avoiding enemy attacks with precision. Double-tapping the Shift key executes a dodge-roll, providing an extra layer of evasion.
- Aerial Dodge/Dash: While in mid-air, press the Shift key to perform an Aerial Dodge, granting you the ability to change direction and avoid attacks quickly.
- Blocking: Hold the ‘Q’ key to block enemy attacks, deflecting their blows and protecting yourself from harm.
- Parrying and Countering: Press the ‘Q’ key just as an enemy attack is about to land, then swiftly follow up with a Left Mouse Button attack to execute a devastating Counter.
- Countershot: Unlock the Countershot skill to perform a point-blank shot after parrying an enemy attack, dealing significant damage.
- Poised Shot: Unlock the Poised Shot skill to parry enemy attacks with a well-timed gunshot, followed by a melee counterattack.
Mastering these techniques will help boost your Reputation multiplier in combat.
Firearms & Equipment
In Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, understanding the differences between sidearms and long guns is crucial for effective combat.
Sidearms and pistols excel at close range, dealing decent damage and allowing quick firing with the Right Mouse Button to interrupt Break attacks or destroy explosive barrels. However, using sidearms depletes Black Powder charges, which are replenished by landing melee hits.
In contrast, long guns are ideal for medium-to-long-range combat, requiring reloads between shots. To maximize damage with long guns, hold the ‘F’ key to aim, then press the Spacebar during the golden gauge window. Some long guns even grant critical headshots.
Boost your combat prowess by matching equipment for powerful synergy bonuses! Melee weapons, firearms, grenades, and armor pieces can be upgraded by interacting with NPCs at campsites.
Note that armor pieces, such as helmets and gauntlets, belong to sets, and equipping two pieces from the same set unlocks a synergy bonus. Mix and match gear to discover potent combinations and take your combat to the next level!
Investing In The Skill Tree
Explore the extensive skill trees in Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, comprising the Powder tree (firearms and explosives), Magic tree (Enki-boosting), and Steel tree (melee-focused).
Spend Reputation to unlock perks, but note that accessing higher-tier options requires unlocking adjacent nodes. Keep in mind that unlearning a skill only partially refunds the invested Reputation.
Unlockable perks include enhanced Black Powder and Enki charges, curses that affect nearby enemies, stunning attacks, armor-piercing hits, instant revival, extra armor piece synergy bonuses, Countershot and Poised Shot actions, and more.
3. Enki is Your Best Friend
Ah, Enki—the mysterious fox-like companion in Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn. This little furball is a lesser god that serves as a bridge between Nor and the gods themselves. As Nor’s trusty guide and ally, Enki accompanies you on your perilous journey through Kian.
Enki’s Abilities & Skill Tree
Utilize Enki’s divine abilities to afflict your enemies with debilitating curses and priming debuffs, weakening their resolve and setting them up for a critical blow. By pressing the ‘E’ key, you can target enemies and summon Enki’s wrath, unleashing a curse that deals damage over time or weakens their defenses, depending on the Cursed Stone equipped.
As Enki’s attacks land, the Priming gauge fills, building up a purple meter above the enemy’s health bar. Once the gauge is full, your next normal attack on a glowing target becomes a critical hit, dealing increased damage and exploiting enemy weaknesses.
Investing in the Magic skill tree enhances Enki’s capabilities, increasing his Priming charges and granting him additional actions that can trigger randomly in battle, such as taunting foes or pouncing on them with ferocity.
Withering Spells
When the meter in the bottom-right corner is full, unleash Enki’s true power with Withering spells.
These powerful spells include a massive gravitational vortex with a huge area-of-effect radius, pulling enemies in and dealing massive damage; a searing light beam that pierces through armor and inflicts massive damage; and swirling slashes that heal your character and restore vitality.
4. Explore The World
Exploring the world of Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is crucial to unlocking its secrets and becoming a formidable force against the forces of corruption.
Venture off the beaten path to discover hidden treasures, secret areas, and powerful upgrades. By exploring every nook and cranny, you’ll gain a significant advantage in combat, unlock new abilities, and uncover the rich lore and history of the world.
Hidden Secrets & Air Dashing
Use Nor’s agility and explore the world of Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn with ease. Perform acrobatic moves like air dashes and double jumps to reach hidden ledges, cross gaps, and discover secret areas filled with treasures and power-ups.
Keep an eye out for glowing skulls that open rifts, allowing Enki to glide across vast distances and uncover hidden rewards. Hold the ‘E’ key to pass through these rifts and explore hidden caverns, ancient ruins, and mysterious landscapes.
Multiple Fast Travel Options
Master your fast travel options to navigate the world quickly and easily. Use Lodestones, small altars that dot various areas of the world, to fast travel between regions and discover new lands.
Visit Campsites and upgrade your gear, accept Sapper quests, and unlock new uniforms and side quests. Don’t forget to talk to Baz, who will help you fast travel to major regions you’ve already visited.
Finally, unlock Coffee Shops to gain additional flask charges, purchase new uniforms, and tackle exciting side quests.
Permanent Stat Boosts
As you explore, seek out permanent stat boosts to enhance Nor’s survivability and Enki’s combat prowess. Find Inaya Shrines, obelisks visible by their bright red beams, to increase Nor’s maximum HP and unlock new abilities.
Collect Enki’s Feathers, giant feathers scattered throughout the Three Peaks and Wanderer’s Rest regions, to level up Enki’s Priming capability and unleash more frequent critical hits.
With all these things in mind, you’re now well-equipped to embark on your adventure in Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn!
May these tips and tricks aid you in your quest to vanquish the undead, liberate the land of Kian from the forces of darkness, and restore peace to this war-torn world.
