Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launches globally for all platforms tomorrow but a recent update for the game hit players who are playing with an error message. The error is labeled NIAMEY-LEE and it says that your data is corrupt or didn’t download correctly. You can either choose to reset your progress or deny the reset which will take you back to the main menu screen after which you’ll be unable to play the game.
Many rewards can be earned through the MW2 campaign which are exclusive to the campaign, so naturally, early access players will be worried about their progress being reset. But there is a workaround to fix the NIAMEY-LEE error and ensure that your progress isn’t lost.
Follow the steps below in order to fix the error:
- Click “Yes” when the error message appears
- Cancel out of the installation screen to reach the campaign screen
- Press the Settings menu button on your controller
- Navigate to the Quick Settings option
- Quit Quick Settings to look for the Campaign Early Access notification
- Select Continue and you’ll be able to access the campaign with all of your progress intact.
Infinity Ward tweeted this workaround themselves on Twitter. Check out the tweet below:
However, a few hours later, Infinity Ward provided an update on the error fix on Twitter, stating that the issue has been resolved with an update and asked players to restart the game client in order to see its effects.
Props to Infinity Ward for taking action as soon as they were aware of the issue. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launches tomorrow globally on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
