Five Nights at Freddy’s is loosely based on the horror video game series of the same name but with some new perspectives.
In the film, an unemployed security guard, Mike, gets a job at a creepy abandoned pizza place, Freddy’s Fazbear Pizza. The Pizzeria has been closed since the mysterious disappearance and death of five children back in the 80s.
In the end, Mike’s sister, Abby, finally saves the day. During the confrontation, she communicates with her animatronic friends and tells them that it was William who killed and trapped them. The robots then turn against him and get their revenge. However, the film does not confirm Willian’s death, leaving room for speculation.
The film ends with the expected animatronic mayhem but leaves many questions unanswered. If you’re looking for answers to some of these questions, look no further!
1. What Happened in Freddy’s Pizzeria in the 80s?
The animatronics in the Pizzeria are possessed by the ghosts of the five kids whom William killed in the 80s. After killing the kids, William puts the remains of their bodies within these robotic creatures so that the police cannot find them.
The animatronic ghosts end up being possessed by the kids’ souls due to their physical attachment. William is a serial killer who kidnaps kids, kills them, and manipulates their remains so they can do his dirty work as animatronics, and nobody suspects him.
William’s deeds influence the souls of the dead kids, so they torment and terrorize anyone who comes into their premises. Freddy’s remained closed since their death, so they are used to having it to themselves until Mike comes in.
2. Five Nights at Freddy’s Ending Explained
When Mike first comes to the Pizzeria, he brings his sister Abby, who he has full custody of. Abby becomes friends with the possessed animatronics, but they want her as a permanent member of their gang.
In order to convince Mike, the animatronics make a deal with him. In exchange for Abby, they promise to reveal the truth behind Garrett, Mike’s brother, who disappeared as a child. Meanwhile, Vanessa constantly warns Mike about Abby bonding with the animatronics.
Although Mike agrees to the animatronics’ proposal at first, he finally changes his mind and decides to save his remaining sibling instead of running after Garrett’s truth. This leads to a massive face-off between him and the animatronics.
Later, Vanessa tends to his wounds and reveals that she is actually William’s daughter. She tells Mike that it was William who killed the five kids in the 80s, and their souls are trapped within the animatronics and controlled by William. Mike also finds out that it was he who killed Mike’s brother, Garrett, on their camping trip.
Moreover, it was William (using the name Steve Raglan) who gave him the job as a security guard at the Pizzeria. William once worked at the Pizzeria as a yellow rabbit, which is when he killed the kids.
3. The Animatronics Turn Against William: Does He Die?
In the final moments of the film, Mike and Vanessa reach the Pizzeria in time to save Abby from the animatronics. At this point, William comes into the scene as the giant yellow rabbit.
Vanessa and William have a huge face-off. William stabs his own daughter, although she lives. Finally, Abby comes to the rescue as she communicates to the souls of the children through her drawings, telling them that it was the yellow rabbit who killed and trapped them.
As a result, the animatronics turn against William and drag him away as his own animatronic suit begins stabbing him from within. He begins bleeding heavily, and one of the ghosts locks him up in the storeroom. But the ending does not confirm his death. Even if he dies, he might come back as a ghost through the yellow rabbit.
4. Will Vanessa Get Out of Her Coma?
The ending of the film reveals that Vanessa fell into a coma after being stabbed by William. Since she did succumb to her wounds, it is likely that she will wake up from her coma in the future.
The makers evidently do not want to kill her off, given that she knows a lot of information that the others don’t. She can be a great ally to Mike in any future sequels.
