Disney+’s Hawkeye is scheduled to premiere on November 24. The show releases its official first look, wherein Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye meets his successor, Kate Bishop played by Hailee Steinfeld.
As Marvel’s Phrase 4 expands its universe to more superheroes, we finally get to meet Kate Bishop, who was first introduced in the Young Avengers comics of the 2000s.
She was originally created by Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung and would take on the role of Hawkeye after his passing.
Of course, since the possibilities in comic books are limitless, Hawkeye would eventually return and the mentor-mentee duo go on to fight side by side.
EW releases an exclusive first-look of the show, where we chance upon an encounter between Hawkeye and Kate Bishop. Bishop is seen with the signature bow and arrow, just slightly more neon colored than Hawkeye would have his!
Now, Kate Bishop won’t just be casually strolling into Barton’s life, as Renner explains to EW. The two navigating their relationship will warrant a lot of tight situations. Here’s more from Renner.
[Kate is] a 22-year-old kid and she’s a big Hawkeye fan. She has a wonderfully annoying and equally charming manner about her, because she’s such a fangirl of Hawkeye. The relationship grows from that, but the biggest problem for Clint is Kate Bishop and the onslaught of problems that she brings into his life.
Jeremy Renner
Kate Bishop has been a much-awaited character in the MCU and it took a while for Steinfeld, the only actor approached for the role, to confirm her involvement.
But the ball got rolling in December 2020. Renner also spoke about how he welcomed her into the fold.
That was always my role. Outside of acting in the thing, I was protecting her and giving her the CliffsNotes on how it goes with this kind of filmmaking: Green screen, superhero life, all that stuff.
Jeremy Renner
Renner and Steinfeld will be joined by Vera Farmiga, Fra Fee, Tony Dalton, Zahn McClarnon, Brian d’Arcy James, and Alaqua Cox.
There are a lot of interesting aspects to look forward to in the upcoming Hawkeye — We will have Clint Barton dealing with his own history as Ronin, the alias we see him use in Avengers: Endgame. Bishop’s entry brings in the continuation of Hawkeye’s legacy.
And last, and in no ways the least, Florence Pugh’s Yelena will feature in as an added adversary in the show. Black Widow’s post-credits scene hints at Yelena demanding Hawkeye for a viable explanation about her sister’s death.
But it may be more than just that, as word has it Yelena may also be after recruiting Bishop.
If Marvel’s TV series are any hallmark to go by, then Hawkeye is sure to be a ball!
