The MonsterVerse was introduced to the audiences in 2014 with Godzilla and has continued till the latest installment in the franchise, the 2021 film Godzilla vs. Kong. Legendary has had such a successful career in the Toho films production that they then decided to team up with Apple+ to make a Godzilla spinoff series.
The MonsterVerse series was announced earlier in 2022, and production has just begun in August 2022. The series has added actors Kiersey Clemons, Kurt Russell, and Wyatt Russell to the cast, with more additions to be made along the way.
The series’ plot details or storyline have not been disclosed yet, but theories suggest that the show will explore the ties that Monarch has to these Titans we’ve come to know, and some who we don’t, in the MonsterVerse.
Legendary shared the first official image from the sets of the upcoming TV series on its Twitter account, teasing Monarch playing a significant role and confirming theories of the show’s exploration of the central government agency’s ties with the Titans.
The image shows an old bag with the Monarch logo, along with some photos in the background, indicating past sightings of the Titans. But, of course, this only confirms Monarch will be playing a key role in the Godzilla TV show, which was a given since the agency has been at the center of the MonsterVerse films all along.
The series is probably set sometime between the events of the 2014 Godzilla film and the 2021 Godzilla vs. Kong. But the cast additions indicate that the series will not be exploring the characters previously added to the MonsterVerse films but will feature a different angle on the same kind of story. So far, Monarch seems to be the only connection between the MonsterVerse movies and its first TV series.
The show has only begun shooting, so it is safe to assume the Apple+ exclusive will release sometime in 2024. Fans can expect more updates on filming, which is well underway.

Godzilla (2014) was a reboot of the Godzilla Franchise by Toho, and is the first film in Legendary’s MosnterVerse, a franchise including Godzilla, King Kong and all other monsters under Toho. The film inspired a spinoff series that will incorporate the MosnterVerse Godzilla brought to screens by Apple TV+.
The series will revolve around a family unveiling the Titan’s secrets and their link to Monarch, an organization that has played a major role in previous MonsterVerse projects.
The show will star Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemmons, Elisa Lasowski, Joe Tippett, and Ren Watabe. Other plot details and cast is not privy to the public. The first two episodes will be directed by WandaVision director Matt Shakman.
