Firefly Lane, the latest book adaptation to come to Netflix this year, is the story of two best friends and their enduring, complicated bond, spanning four tumultuous decades.
Based on the NYT bestselling novel by Kristin Hannah, Netflix had ordered 10 episodes last year in February. The book was first released in 2013.
Set in the mid-1970s, it follows the story of best pals Kate Mularkey and Tully Hart and their relationship from beginning till date. It’s a coming of age tale – part comedy, part thriller, part heart-wrenching drama.
In the series, Katherine Heigl is signed on to play Tully, and Sarah Chalke will be Kate. However, there will be at least two other Kates and Tullys as the story spans across four decades.
What’s the series about?
Kate, an unpopular girl who strives for a normal life where she is loved, meets Tully, a cool girl with a secret past who would also do anything to be loved by everyone. Their friendship starts in the summer of 1974, which would go on for three decades as they watch each other grow into women.
Thirty years later, Kate is now a wife and mother who has grown envious of her best friend. Meanwhile, Tully is as lonely as ever despite having millions of fans who watch her on TV.
There is friendship, betrayal, and whole lot of drama in this novel from author Kristin Hannah who has also penned behind Winter Garden, The Nightingale, and The Great Alone.
Although reading the book isn’t necessary before you watch the series, you might want to, considering it is a multi-award winner. It’s also worth noting that the book is the first of two books with Fly Away being the second.
