The Fire Force manga has been serialized in the Weekly Shonen Magazine since 2015. Yet, the number of breaks that the mangaka has taken is minimal.
Recently, the author posted a tweet saying that he has been taking little to no breaks. However, instead of making us feel relieved, the sentence has worried fans regarding the author’s health.
Especially keeping in mind how many mangaka physically suffer due to the workload, it is no wonder that fans are worried about their favorite author.
Atsushi Ohkubo, creator of the manga, Fire Force, posted a tweet that said he isn’t taking any breaks. In addition to that, he has already made sure that he has the manga planned well ahead.
I can give you an example of a writer who will be suspended due to this one case, but during this week of suspension, I worked as usual and gave one episode, and when I go to an overseas event, I raise 5 episodes in 4 weeks and make stock. I haven’t taken a rest! I have a lot of writing, so even if I die now, I’ll continue to serialize it for about a month, so I’m a writer who never rests https://t.co/FmhY98AulW

Thus concluding that even if he died suddenly (may God forbid), the manga would still be serialized for another month. Whenever he attends any overseas event, he makes sure that the manga doesn’t suffer by doing everything beforehand.
As much as we all appreciate the thoughtfulness and the dedication behind the practice, all of us want mangaka to take breaks. We all know that the schedule causes damage to the author’s health after a prolonged period of time.
Since Atsushi Ohkubo is in charge of both the script and the illustrations, his pressure must be significantly more as well.
Recently, Gege Akutami, the mangaka of Jujutsu Kaisen went on a 1-month hiatus due to his health issues, and that has made us even jumpier about these matters.
Not to mention the unfortunate death of Berserk’s mangaka that has sent the manga fandom into a state of mourning.
All in all, we wish that mangaka try to take better care of themselves as much as possible. As much as we love their works, we also respect the creators and care for their mental and physical health.
