According to a marketing video published by Sony in November last year, Final Fantasy XVI was supposed to be PlayStation exclusive for six months only. However, this plan was later changed slightly.
Square Enix’s anticipated Final Fantasy XVI will be available exclusively on PlayStation 5 when the game finally launches this summer. There will be a PC port eventually, but a little later than the contractual 6-month exclusivity agreement.
Now that AAA titles are being made for every console possible, to reach out to a wider audience, it is a bit strange that Final Fantasy XVI is choosing to stick to just PS5.
Producer Naoki Yoshida clarified that Sony is actually a co-developer of Final Fantasy XVI. The company has worked in close collaboration with Square Enix to develop a game which is fully optimized for PS5.
Also, by not developing on the premise of multiple platforms, we could invest more man-hours into things such as building the game and optimization. In addition, we can also do promotions together globally that make me wonder, ‘How much would this be if it was converted to money?’ Technological and promotional support are things we would like to receive if we can receive them.”

Final Fantasy XVI was started around the same time as Forspoken. However, Square Enix did not use the same Luminous engine for its development.
Instead, the developers used a specific engine created solely for the development of Final Fantasy XVI. There’s some speculation that Sony might have lent a hand for its making too.
Final Fantasy XVI launches on June 22nd for PlayStation 5.
