Sony has made a shocking revelation regarding the upcoming installment of Final Fantasy which might not go too well among fans. Final Fantasy XVI’s sixteenth mainline game has been revealed to be exclusive to the PS5 console.
On Monday, Sony PlayStation streamed a video showing previews of upcoming games, including Final Fantasy XVI. At the point where the footage of the single-player RPG is displayed, the text reveals that the game will be exclusive to PS5 for six months.
If you missed it, check at 0.14, where the text “Final Fantasy XVI anticipated Summer 2023. PS5 exclusive for six months” breaks the news first-hand.
Players can relate this sudden announcement to Final Fantasy VII: Remake Intergrade, which went through a similar phase in June 2021. Remake Intergrade was also a PS5 exclusive for six months until December when a PC version was finally released.
Final Fantasy XVI will make its way to stores in Summer 2023. As for its release on other platforms, Square Enix has stated that they have no further information regarding that.
In 2020, the reveal trailer for the game did mention a PC release. However, this was omitted from later trailers. This does not mean that we won’t get a PC version at all, but it is as uncertain as an Xbox version at the moment.
Naoki Yoshida, the producer of Final Fantasy XVI, had stated in June this year that the game was in the final stage of development, and they were adding finishing touches to the game, which included debugging, tweaking, and optimizing the game.
Hiroshi Takai, the director of the game, also said that the team is currently focused on removing bugs, and everything is coming together.
Although there is no clarity about which other platforms Final Fantasy XVI will release on, we can expect further information once it gets released or after the expiry of the exclusivity period.
