Since its debut in 2000, Final Destination has become the world’s best-selling science-fiction property with five films, two comic books, and nine novels.
In all five films, a small group of people is saved from death after the protagonist foresees their demise. However, one by one, they die as part of elaborate schemes by which death manifests itself as a shower cord, the filter of a swimming pool, an escalator, or even a logging truck accident.
The creator of the Final Destination series, Jeffrey Reddick, talks about how Final Destination 6 is going to be a type of reboot and feature a new formula from the previous films.
In 2019, a sixth movie was announced for the franchise, and it has been in development ever since.
The franchise has found a new home on HBO Max, thanks to Jon Watts, director of Spider-Man: No Way Home, and his wife, Dianne McGunigle. Craig Perry and Sheila Hanahan Taylor, longtime producers of the franchise, will also return.
There is a lot of excitement and anticipation in the Final Destination 6 community because of the stellar team.
Reddick discusses the horror franchise he created in an interview with Dread Central (transcribed by Comicbook). Despite not being involved in Final Destination 6, Perry keeps him in the loop.
The creator says that this won’t be just another where they “set up a group of people, they cheat death, and then just death gets them.”
Read his quote on the upcoming installment:
“[…]this one is… a true Final Destination movie, but it doesn’t follow that kind of formula that we’ve kind of established… I think I can say that much.”
A new twist on a familiar formula is certainly exciting, especially as it has been over ten years since Final Destination 5. Fans may welcome this change since the first five films share several elements, as Reddick noted.
As a horror franchise, Reddick’s stands out from the crowd since it lacks a traditional antagonist and monsters like other horror films. Rather, death itself pursues the characters of Final Destination, making it almost impossible for them to evade it.
There is a promise of something new and different in Final Destination 6, as viewers do not know what is in store for the movie. If the movie lives up to its predecessors, there will most likely be spectacular and elaborate death scenes that fans have grown to expect and love.
