Charlize Theron’s character in The Fast and Furious franchise, Cipher, is getting her own spin-off project. Cipher is a notorious cyberterrorist who blackmails Dominic Toretto into working for her by kidnapping his ex, Elena Neves, and their infant son.
Cipher was first introduced as the main antagonist in The Fate of the Furious (2017). She returned for F9, but is locked in a container cell throughout the film and doesn’t really pose an immediate threat until the end moments. However, Dom saves his crew from her attack… once again.
Now, Vin Diesel has told Variety that he has writers working on a “Fast & Furious” spinoff for Theron’s character, Cipher.
The main Fast & Furious franchise will conclude with a final story which will be divided into two films. After that, Universal has plans of continuing the franchise with multiple spinoffs for its characters, similar to the Hobbs & Shaw spinoff. A sequel to Hobbs & Shaw is also in the works, with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham set to reprise their respective roles.
Some of the F9 stars also teased an ‘all female’ spinoff. The Fast and Furious franchise has many badass female characters played by Eva Mendes, Helen Mirren, Nathalie Emmanuel, Anna Sawai, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster and Charlize Theron.
Our guess wouldn’t be far off to predict that Cipher might end up being the main villain of Fast & Furious 10. It would be interesting to see how she bounces back after Dom already having defeated her twice. Having escaped twice, Theron’s Cipher is a tough and smart antagonist.
F9 is out in cinemas in the US.
