Fast and Furious 9: Release Date and Casting Details

In March 2020, one of the biggest films of the year, Fast and Furious 9, was pushed forward by eleven months (April 2, 2021) due to the COVID19 outbreak. The news was undoubtedly disappointing to fans, but Universal Studios made the decision with the safety of everyone in consideration.

Universal Studios has further moved the date to May 28, 2021, and we will hopefully get to see the movie in theatres by then. The franchise finale (tenth) film was supposed to release around April 2021, but that will not happen anymore, and hoping for two Fast and Furious films in a year (especially with COVID still out there) is too much to ask.

However, Vin Diesel, actor and producer of Fast and Furious 9 said that he would not settle for just one film as a finale. And recently, Universal has confirmed that the franchise will receive a two-film final, which will be produced back to back and will only see the light of the day in 2022.

Justin Lin, the film director, confirmed on Instagram back in November 2020 that “Fast 9” is 100% complete. Audio mixes are a few of the last things that are finished in a project, and since even that is done, the film is almost as good as released.

The film will star most of the main cast from previous films. So Vin Diesel will return as Dom, Michelle Rodriguez will return as Letty, Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges as Tej and Tyrese Gibson as Roman and more.

Jordana Brewster will return as Dom’s sister Mia after missing out on the last film, along with Nathalie Emmanuel, who will also return as Ramsey. The ninth film will also see Cardi B (oooh~), Peaky Blinders star Finn Cole, Anna Sawai, and Vinnie Bennett, but their roles are still unknown.

Although, the most anticipated newcomer has to be John Cena, who will play Dom’s villainous brother (who we didn’t even know existed until now). Another thing that is catching the eyes of the fans is Sung Kang’s comeback as Han, who was supposed to have been dead according to the post-credit scene of Fast and Furious 6.

While it may be hard to imagine how and why Han is alive in Fast 9, the director said it would make sense. To know more about what and why, we will just have to wait till May 28, 2021, for the movie to be released.

About Fast and Furious 9

Fast and Furious 9 (or F9) is an American action film directed by Justin Lin. The film is a sequel to 2017’s The Fast and Furious and the ninth instalment in the Fast and Furious franchise.

The film will star Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Helen Mirren and John Cena, among others. The film was delayed for over a year due to the pandemic in March 2020. It is scheduled to release in the United States on June 25, 2021.

Dominic Toretto is leading a quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, little Brian. But they know that danger always lurks just over their peaceful horizon. This time, the threat will force Dom to confront the sins of his past. His crew joins together to stop a world-shattering plot led by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver ever seen: a man who also happens to be Dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob.
