A new IMAX poster for Fast & Furious 9 depicts brothers Dominic and Jakob Toretto in vehicular combat, teasing intense action to return.
F9 is the latest entry within the massively popular street-racing action franchise centering around Dom (Vin Diesel), his sister Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster), and their found family assembled over eight films. F9 was at one point alleged to release last year, but the pandemic pushed it back. Nevertheless, it’s one of the biggest anticipated features of the upcoming summer.
The Fast & Furious films are chiefly about family, and F9 leans into that theme by introducing John Cena as Jakob, the estranged brother of Dom and Mia. Jakob may be a super-criminal united with the family’s old enemy, Cipher, and he’s hell-bent on seeking vengeance against his brother.
Dom famously stresses that he would never turn his back on a member of his family. The very existence of Jakob has grand implications for the character and, therefore, the franchise. F9 is about to drop a variety of such bombs on the fanbase, including the return of presumed dead Han (Sung Kang) and, therefore, the inclusion of an often-joked-about mission to space.
F9 recently revealed a gritty IMAX poster featuring the action that audiences have come to expect from the franchise. Keeping up with the initial conflict of the franchise, it shows the estranged brothers locked in combat, driving decidedly cool cars.
They’re racing through the jungle, and behind them, a less-than-fortunate automobile is propelled with explosive force into the air. Every grain of sand and each polished square in their vehicles appeared crisp, in a fashion befitting the image quality of IMAX.
The poster does a superb job of representing the two aspects of the Fast & Furious franchise. It displays the emotional theme of family conflict with the brother’s head. The utter chaos around Dom and Jakob represents the off-the-wall insane action that the series has gradually worked up to since the primary entry back in 2001.
As if to increase the theme of family and rekindle excitement in the wake of the pandemic, Universal is releasing every previous Fast & Furious film in theaters for free of charge, leading up to the F9 release.
There’s a possibility that they’ll hope to coax audiences out with promises of action and heart as movie distribution attempts to recover. Whether or not they resolve to such sorts to ascertain their motive, audiences are bound to get exactly what they expect from Fast & Furious 9. Few franchises are as consistent as Fast & Furious, and this poster, also as an exciting plot reveal, indicates that they’ve not yet dropped the ball.
About Fast and Furious 9
