Road to Hamartia is a main story quest of the Eurvicscire arc in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. This quest begins after completing the “Honor Has Two Edges” quest. It is a rather lengthy quest, and it requires players to make several difficult choices that may affect the gameplay or the storyline.
To start with the quest, you must visit Halfdan in his fort at the center of Donecaestre in Eurvicscire. Approaching Halfdan initiates a cutscene, after which you have to make your first choice. So, should you tell Halfdan the truth about Faravid’s attack plan?
The choice of “Faravid is planning an attack” or “Faravid is honorable” does not impact the future events of the Eurvicscire arc’s storyline in any significant way. The consequences of both these choices are the same.
1. Choosing “Faravid is planning an attack.”
If you reveal that Faravid is planning an attack on Picts at Manis, then Halfdan will be enraged over Faravid’s action and ask you to investigate him further at the Wolds.
2. Choosing “Faravid is honorable.”
If you choose to conceal the information of the attack and call Faravid an honorable man, Halfdan will still not believe you and ask you to continue watching him for evidence of treachery.
As the effects of both these choices are the same, I recommend you to tell Halfdan the truth about Faravid’s plan to save Eivor from his guilty conscience.
3. Finding and Investigating Moira
After making the choice, you have to investigate Moira, Halfdan’s healer. Look for her in a large wooden hut south of the castle in Donecaestre.
Moira is not in the hut, but a letter sitting on a table at the back of the hut suggests that she is in a village called Wyke.
Head to the Wyke village located in the southeast region of Eurvicscire after reading the letter.
Moira is in an isolated house far northwest of the stone bridge that provides entrance to the Wyke. You will find an angry crowd outside her house, wishing to burn her for being a “witch.”
Climb the ladder in front of the house and break the wooden planks on top of it to enter the house.
Interact with Moira to initiate a cutscene. During this cutscene, you have to help her escape and decide whether you can talk to the crowd about it or need her to act hurt. Again, both the choices here do not affect the story’s future events, but they slightly impact the gameplay.
4. Choosing “I can talk my way out of this”
If you choose “I can talk my way out of this” dialogue and have a Charisma level 3+, you can talk to the mob leader and disperse the crowd, but if your Charisma is low, you have to brawl with the leader to scare them off.
5. Choosing “Pretend you are hurt”
If you ask Moira to act hurt, you can carry her outside the house without dealing with the crowd.
I recommend you to go with the latter choice as it requires less effort. Carry her a little far north and select any of the two dialogues when you are given a choice to investigate her brew. Both the options do not impact the story or the gameplay.
6. Reporting Back to Halfdan & Finding Olav
Head back to Halfdan, who is in the Temple of Brigantia in the northern region of Donecaestre. Use your raven to locate him sitting near a campfire. Interact with him, and he will ask you to find his missing scout, Olav.
Climb the pillar at the back of the campfire and walk on the rope connected to it to reach a set of joint pillars. Walk straight and take a right to find the mortally wounded scout at the end of the edge. Carry him back to Halfdan.
Halfdan will now order Beonton, the dog, to track Olav’s attackers. Follow him to the Petuaria Ruins towards the northeast.
7. Searching for the Alleged Traitors in Petuaria Ruins
Walk into the main building of the ruins and break the wooden planks on the floor at the back to make an entrance below.
Climb down and slide through the small hole in the wall out of the room. Swim your way to another side and use the red flaming pots to blow the barricade blocking Halfdan’s exit.
Now circle around to the main hall and find a wooden door at the right side of this hall, open it, and a long cutscene will initiate.
The traitors will arrive in the ruins during this cutscene. Pick up the key from the table and make your way out of the building using the locked gate across the current room.
Another cutscene will ensue where Halfdan will confront Ulf and his companions and call them traitors. On the other hand, Ulf will argue that he has betrayed no one, and all the rewards were given to him by Faravid for his hard-fought battles. Now, you have to decide whether Ulf and his companions deserve punishment or not.
The choice of “Traitor must suffer” or “They don’t deserve punishment” slightly affects the quest’s future events and gameplay, but in both scenarios, Ulf will die. Still, this choice won’t affect the rest of the arc’s story.
8. Choosing “Traitor must suffer.”
If you choose to punish Ulf and his companions, they will immediately turn hostile, and you will have to track and kill all of them to complete the quest.
9. Choosing “They don’t deserve punishment.”
If you choose to spare the alleged traitors, Halfdan will still kill Ulf during a small cutscene, but he will spare Ulf’s companions and allow them to flee.
I recommend you to go for the latter option as it is less bloody and makes your job easier. After making this choice, a final cutscene will initiate, and the quest will conclude.
