Grindelwald has declared a war on Muggles. The new trailer of Fantastic Beasts 3 reveals Dumbledore is setting up a rather unusual team to take him down.
The Secrets of Dumbledore will take place a few years after The Crimes of Grindelwald, leading up to World War II. The trailer reveals that the wizarding villain and his army are only growing stronger.
While Newt is aware of Dumbledore and Grindelwald’s blood pact, they’re still to find a way to break it (if that even exists). In the meantime, Dumbledore sends Newt and his friends on yet another mission that will aid in pacifying Grindelwald.
The exact details of the mission are unknown, but we are introduced to the team entrusted to do it: Newt, his assistant Bunty, Yusuf Kama, school teacher Lally Hicks, and the Muggle Jacob.
As Theseus puts it sarcastically—“Sure,” this oddball team has a chance against the most dangerous wizard of the century.
The trailer also shows Mads Mikkelsen taking over the role of Grindelwald, in one of the biggest casting replacements.
What I appreciate was not assimilating Mikkelsen’s into Depp’s Grindelwald. They abandoned the white hair, thin mustache look and gave Mikkelsen a persona of his own. From the trailer, he does fit well into the character and the overall narrative.
As this movie’s focus is on Dumbledore, it will highlight why most often than not, he chooses to remain (plan, fight, whatever you may have it) at the sidelines. But his secretive ways are sure to throw him into a moral dilemma.
On a lighter note, I can’t help but also notice Dumbledore’s unfair point system—giving three points for Newt’s Hufflepuff as opposed to ten points for Harry’s Gryffindor. We definitely know who the favorite child is!
My personal favorite moment was returning back to Hogwarts’ dining hall with three sassy young wizards and even a tease to the Room of Requirement.
This trailer comes in time to get you even more excited about the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts special taking place in January.
