Build Divide: Code Black is an upcoming anime in which your position in society is determined by your ability to play a card game called Build Divide.
The story takes place in New Kyoto, which is governed through an AR infrastructure controlled by an existence called King. This King is supposedly the best in the Build Divide card game.
Teruto Kurabe aims to defeat the King in order to fulfill his secret wish. He takes the help of a mysterious girl named Banka Sakura, who guides him through his journey.
The official website for Build Divide: Code Black has released a second promotional video. The anime will debut on October 9, 2021.
The PV begins with Sakura explaining to Teruto the rules of New Kyoto and how you could become the King of the city. We get glimpses of some other main characters and hints about why they want to become the King.
We also see several battle scenes where the player summons creatures to battle against his opponent, like other anime based on a card game.
This PV also previews the opening theme song for the anime “BANG!!!” by EGOIST. MEMAI SIREN performs the ending theme “Fukagyakuteki na Inochi no Shо̄zо̄.”
The Blu-ray and DVD for the first season will be released on January 26, 2022, on the official website.
Although it’s hard to tell how this will end up, it is safe to say that will probably be a commercial success just because of the card game angle.
While this genre might not be for everyone, the AR infrastructure governance and the mystery aspect might make it intriguing for some people.
