Extraction 2 Set Video Teases A Snowy Adventure for Rake

Chris Hemsworth is coming back as Tyler Rake in Extraction 2, and this time around, it’s going to be an adventure in a blizzard.

Director Sam Hargrave took to Instagram to announce that filming on the Netflix movie has begun in a heavily snow-clad region. The director shared a short clip after wrapping up on day one of filming and that he was leaving the “train location.”

It feels like we’ll be getting another badass fight sequence… perhaps on a moving train. Filming in the snow was hectic, but Hargrave noted, “It looks pretty great on camera, so we’ll take it.”

In the video, Hargrave is seen dressed in thick winter clothes, indicating that the sequel will see a complete shift in the story’s setting, with Tyler going to a location far away from Bangladesh.

The Netflix original became the streamer’s biggest premiere in history when it debuted in 2020 with an estimated 90m streams within its first month. No wonder Netflix wasted no time in announcing the sequel.

Based on the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks, Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, Fernando León González, and Eric Skillman, the first film unfolds when Tyler Rake, a black-market mercenary, is hired to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international crime lord.”

While talking to Collider, Hargrave had expressed his desire to explore more stories in the franchise,

So, [as far as] my personal involvement, I would like to be as involved as possible, but I also don’t want to be greedy. There’s a lot of other super talented filmmakers out there who would have very unique visions and would bring something new and fresh to the franchise that I would be excited to see as a fan.

Hargrave also added that the sequel would “really establish the franchise.”

Although the film doesn’t have an official synopsis yet, last month, Hemsworth posted an on-set video from the first film and wrote, “Shooting for the sequel beings soon and believe it not it’ll be bigger and badder than the first.”

A teaser for the sequel was released at Netflix’s Tudum event with the hashtag #RakeLives. It showed a fatally injured Tyler as he falls into the Bangladeshi river, and we hear Ovi’s voice, “Tyler, you drown, not by falling into the river, but by staying submerged in it.”

Extraction 2 does not have a release date as of now, but it can be expected to drop on Netflix sometime in late 2022.
