Moon Knight Ep 6: You Don’t Want to Mess with Jake Lockley!

There had to be a reason why Oscar Isaac’s precious head was sliced into three during every Moon Knight credits scene. Our journey started out meeting Steven Grant, who quickly finds out along with us, that there’s another personality bubbling under the surface: Marc Spector.

What they both don’t account for until the very end of the Moon Knight series, is the possibility of there being more personalities than the two of them.

While Jake Lockley’s presence was subtly confirmed in many Moon Knight episodes, he makes his actual debut in Ep 6’s post-credits scene. He is portrayed as a Spanish speaking man, who is ruthless and still willingly working with Khonshu.

Marc is who we’d conventionally call the “real” person, with Steven just being a personality he created to cope with his trauma, grief and abuse. We now know that both of them have unanimously decided to share control of the body as equals.

The last scene of Moon Knight is almost a direct parallel to the show’s first scene. But the difference is, now Marc and Steven work together having been on this journey of self-discovery and acceptance. (What a heartwarming, tear-jerking arc that was!)

For just a few moments it felt like Marc/Steven had gotten their life together, even if it meant having to still tie themselves to the bed post. But in retrospect, it’s that very action that proves they know there may be other (hostile) personalities at large.

Jake Lockley’s Appearance in Moon Knight Ep 6

In true Marvel fashion, you need to sit through the first set of credits to get a clip that debuts Jake Lockley. It starts with Harrow who is hospitalized in mental care facility, being wheeled out by a mysterious person speaking Spanish.

But the newsboy cap is a dead giveaway. As Harrow is dumped into a posh vehicle, he comes face to face with Khonshu who reveals that making Layla his avatar was never his plan. He already has a perfect one: Jake Lockley.

Cue Mr. Lockley peering back from the driver’s seat and lodging a bullet or two into Harrow.

Jake seems to be the most ruthless of all the personalities so far, having no moral qualms about bloodshed and violence. He also seems to be of some Spanish origin, which is another switch-up from the comics. Other than these two aspects, we don’t know much about him besides the fact that he thinks working with Khonshu is actually a good idea.

In the comics, Jake had a whole life set-up with a wife and kid. Could protecting them be the reason he is still working with Khonshu? Whatever it may be, he seems like a guy you don’t want to mess with.

Are Marc and Steven aware of Jake Lockley?

Ever since Marc and Steven have been communicating more, they’re able to be honest with each other about when they’re in control or not. Increasingly they’ve realized that there have been a dozen of times when neither one of them is controlling the body, and both have blackouts about those memories.

Another thing that constantly happens during these blackouts is that people end up dying or getting seriously injured at the hands of Marc/Steven. For example: The thugs in Egypt in Ep 3, or Harrow in Ep 6. Plus, there was that third sarcophagus in the psychiatric hospital scene.

Going back to the fact that Marc/Steven are continuing to tie themselves while they’re asleep, despite trusting each other makes me think they’re super aware of a dangerous personality.

They know this person leaves a blood trail and has so far been proficient in hiding memories or even their existence from the two of them. What I don’t think they’re aware of is that Jake is still working with Khonshu. That, my friends, is how we’ll a Moon Knight standalone movie.

Here’s a question that may keep me up at night: When Taweret was weighing their hearts, why did no supernatural force sniff out that they had to weigh out Jack Lockley’s heart as well, in order to judge if Marc’s body (as a whole) was worthy of entering the Field of Reeds?
