New set photos from the upcoming Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi reveal how production is concealing Ewan McGregor’s costume from news outlets. The actor who took up the iconic role more than two decades ago will be returning to play Kenobi for Disney+’s new venture with Lucasfilms.
Although both companies have been a little more transparent regarding Obi-Wan Kenobi’s development compared to their other shows, the same cannot be said about the recently surfaced set photos. Yesterday Just Jared took to their Twitter account to release a batch of images taken from the series’ filming location, which shows the lengths Lucasfilm is taking to hide Ewan McGregor’s costume from the public eye.
The actor and other cast members were spotted wearing black cloaks to hide their ensembles. They failed to properly obscure the costume of a Stormtrooper and a member of the Empire, but McGregor’s was wrapped in a full-proof way around his frame while he was photographed walking to the set.
As odd as they might seem, such dark shrouds are typical for big productions as many studios try to keep some aspects of their projects hidden from the paparazzi. Recently Julia Louis-Dreyfus spoke about her experience wearing these cloaks on the set of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier while filming her secret role of Contessa Valentina.
McGregor’s cloak then is most likely a part of filming protocol and thus not of great importance. But it also keeps the doubt alive that hiding McGregor’s costume hints at a possible new upgrade of Kenobi’s old outfit.
If that were to be the case, a new costume for Obi-Wan would be one of the great changes to his narrative in the upcoming show. However, since it has been long known that his story will follow him taking care of a young Luke Skywalker in the early days, it now seems that is not all he will be doing.
With the promise lurking of an Obi-Wan and Darth Vader fight, thanks to Hayden Christensen’s return as well, the show is building up to be quite an exciting addition in the Star Wars franchise.
