The upcoming Ahsoka Disney+ TV show, which premieres on August 23, 2023, features Rosario Dawson as the titular character Ahsoka Tano.
Ahsoka Tano is a Togruta former Jedi apprentice of Anakin Skywalker who played a vital role in the Clone Wars and other animated Star Wars TV shows. The character was originally voiced by Ashley Eckstein and made her live-action debut in The Mandalorian season 2. She now leads her own Disney+ TV show.
Ahsoka belongs to a series of shows that take place approximately five years after Return of the Jedi. The show is an important milestone in the path to an upcoming movie set in The Mandalorian era, which implies that Ahsoka will soon transition from the small screen to theaters.
Ahsoka Tano and her supporting cast, which will include several live-action adaptations of Star Wars Rebels characters, will be introduced to the viewers shortly.
1. Ahsoka: Release Date, Episode Count & Streaming Service
Following the traditional Star Wars Wednesday release, the Ahsoka Disney+ TV show will premiere on August 23, 2023.
The show will consist of eight episodes, which suggests that the Ahsoka finale will air on October 18 – unless Lucasfilm decides to release more than one episode per day, as they sometimes do.
This will provide Disney+ with a nearly continuous flow of popular original content from summer to winter, with rumors that Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will start streaming in November.
At the Ahsoka panel at Star Wars Celebration, the Ahsoka trailer was unveiled, with an extended version for the attendees that included a glimpse of Grand Admiral Thrawn, the main antagonist of the Disney+ TV show.
The trailer reveals an ancient temple (possibly Jedi) adorned with images that evoke mystical aspects of the Force. It also showcases some impressive action scenes involving Ahsoka, her allies, and the new villains introduced in the series.

3. What We Know About Ahsoka’s Plot
The plot of Ahsoka remains largely mysterious, but it seems to begin with Ahsoka joining forces with other Star Wars Rebels as they venture into the Unknown Regions to find their missing friend Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn.
The Mandalorian season 3 already hinted at Thrawn’s comeback, suggesting he is the leader of an Imperial Shadow Council that oversees a resurgent Empire. Ahsoka will have to contend with Imperial Magistrate Morgan Elsbeth, who has hired Force-sensitive bounty hunters, in her quest to locate Thrawn. These enigmatic Force-users, named Baylan and Shin, wield distinctive orange lightsabers and have their own agenda.
The Ahsoka logo’s font suggests a connection to the World Between Worlds, a mystical realm beyond time and space where history can be altered.
The significance of the World Between Worlds in this story is unknown, but it may be related to Baylan and Shin more than Thrawn. The Ahsoka trailer featured a scene where Ahsoka seemed to face Baylan in the World Between Worlds itself.
Ahsoka’s story is a vital milestone in the path to an upcoming movie set in The Mandalorian era, which will weave together all the threads from the various Disney+ TV shows.
The main antagonist of this movie will be Grand Admiral Thrawn, who will reprise the same role he had in the old Star Wars Expanded Universe. Therefore, many viewers expect the film to bear the same title as the classic Timothy Zahn novel that introduced Thrawn, “Heir to the Empire.”
4. The Cast of Ahsoka
Ahsoka boasts a star-studded cast that brings many fan-favorite characters from Star Wars Rebels to live-action. The show also features returning actors from other Star Wars projects, who are expected to play significant roles.
Rosario Dawson reprises her role as the live-action Ahsoka, after portraying the character in The Mandalorian season 2 and The Book of Boba Fett. Natasha Liu Bordizzo joins the cast as the live-action Sabine Wren, a Mandalorian rebel who’s on a personal mission to find her long-lost friend Ezra Bridger. Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays Hera Syndulla, a New Republic general who served alongside Princess Leia herself.
Eman Esfandi portrays the live-action Ezra Bridger, an ally of the rebels who vanished when he used his Jedi powers to summon a flock of purrgil – transporting Grand Admiral Thrawn’s flagship, the Chimaera, into the mysterious sector of space known as the Unknown Regions.
Steve Blum, who appeared as the live-action Zeb, a Lasat ally of the rebels, in The Mandalorian season 3, is likely to return for Ahsoka, although he isn’t confirmed yet.
Lars Mikkelsen is confirmed to play the live-action Grand Admiral Thrawn, a ruthless Imperial strategist who is positioned as the “heir to the Empire” in the Ahsoka trailer.
Diana Lee Inosanto returns as Magistrate Morgan Elsbeth, who was introduced in The Mandalorian season 2 as a warrior who’s fiercely loyal to Grand Admiral Thrawn.
The late Ray Stevenson appears in Ahsoka as Baylan Skoll, a Jedi who survived Order 66 and became a bounty hunter. He has taken on an apprentice named Shin Hati, played by Ivanna Sakhno.
Genevieve O’Reilly also appears in Ahsoka, reprising her role as Mon Mothma – one she previously played in the Star Wars prequel trilogy and Obi-Wan Ken obi.
David Tennant unexpectedly returns to Star Wars as the voice of the droid Huyang. Constructed by the first Jedi, Huyang has served the Order for nearly 25,000 years and has apparently survived the Dark Times.
