Swedish developer Semiwork’s latest game, R.E.P.O., has taken the Steam community by storm, earning an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating and a player base in the thousands just days after release. The game stands out as the most successful title in its genre, and for good reason.

In this co-op horror game, players must scavenge for valuable items while evading the monstrous creatures that lurk in the halls of the terrifying mansion.

But be careful! Do not break or damage the items you collect, as they will lose their value. Your goal is to fill the cart with precious items and push it to a safe point to finish the level and earn money. But it’s not easy, especially when you’re running away from danger at every corner.

R.E.P.O.’s simple physics-based mechanics lead to unpredictable, hilarious moments, such as player collisions and chaotic monster interactions. The game currently features 3 playable worlds, 19 terrifying enemy types, 29 pieces of equipment, and 8-character upgrades.

Semiwork is committed to adding more features, as the game is in early-access for the next 6-12 months. Watch the game’s release trailer below:

R.E.P.O.’s Early Access launch on Steam (February 26th) has been a massive success, attracting 54,854 concurrent players in just 24 hours. However, the sudden popularity caught the developers off guard, and they’ve had to limit online play to friends-only due to hacking issues.

To address this, they’re working on a matchmaking system and server browser. For now, you’ll need Steam friends to play online. The game is currently only available on PC.

On the plus side, the game runs smoothly on Linux with Proton 9.0-4 and is compatible with Steam Deck, although controller support is still in the works.
