Everything We Know About The IronHeart Series So Far

Last year, on Disney’s Investor Day, it announced the IronHeart series along with Armor Wars, Secret Invasion, Hawkeye, and many others. Naturally, this caused quite a buzz, and fans couldn’t be more eager to find out who will take on the mantle of Iron Man. Here’s all we know about Marvel’s Ironheart series – release date, cast, characters, and plot so far.

1. Release Date

There is no release date officially announced yet; however, it seems that we’ll only be seeing IronHeart in late 2023.

This is because Disney’s calendar is pretty much booked with releases such as What If, Ms. Marvel, Hawkeye, and many others until late 2022. So it only makes sense that Ironheart releases only in 2023.

2. Cast

Dominique Thorne will play Riri Williams, the protagonist of the Ironheart series.

Thorne first appeared in the oscar-nominated film, If Beale Street Could Talk (2018) and later played a role in Judas And The Black Messiah (2021).

Despite just being two films old, Thorne has been lauded for her performances. Marvel’s Ironheart will bring a different facet to her as an actress, and it’ll be interesting to see how she portrays the titular character.

3. Plot & Characters

The series will follow the adventures of Riri Williams, a genius inventor who is the creator of the most advanced suit of armor after Iron Man.

Besides this, not much has been revealed about the plot. In the comics, Riri is a 15-year old genius who got a scholarship to study at MIT. However, circumstances lead her to reverse engineer Iron Man’s armor and create her own. She then drops out of college to become a superhero and even fight alongside Iron Man in Civil War 2.

With Iron Man gone, this might not be the storyline of the Ironheart series. However, there’s perhaps one part from the MCU from where it can originate the series. In Civil War, Iron Man announces a grant for all the students at MIT for all their projects. This could be the tiny seed that Marvel transforms into a story arc for a character.

5. About Ironheart

Ironheart is an upcoming American television series created by Chinaka Hodge for the streaming service Disney+, based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. It is intended to be the 11th television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) produced by Marvel Studios, sharing continuity with the films of the franchise.

Hodge serves as head writer. The series is also produced by Proximity Media and 20th Television. Ironheart is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in late 2023, and will consist of six episodes. It will be part of Phase Five of the MCU.

Riri Williams is a 15-year-old engineering student and the daughter of the late Riri Williams Sr.  A certified super-genius, she attends the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on scholarship. Working alone, Riri designs a suit of armor similar to the Iron Man Armor using material stolen from campus.
