With Killing Eve season 4, the spy thriller comes to an end. The love story between Eve and Villanelle also found its conclusion, and it was quite gut-wrenching. But it’s not surprising from a show like Killing Eve.
As Villanelle’s lifeless body is pulled away by the water current, we wonder, what will happen next? Will there be a season 5 of the show? Will Eve return to avenge her lover’s murder?
Killing Eve is not renewed for season 5, and season 4 will be the final one. We will see a spin-off series based on Carolyn Martens, but we don’t know much about it.
After season 2 of the show, its writing quality deteriorated. In fact, the show was following the usual tropes we see in shows like that. Although this helped the show gain more popularity worldwide, it surely was a hindrance to the quality of the critically acclaimed TV series.
In fact, there a part of the fandom didn’t want the show to carry one further because it would merely ruin the incredible legacy it had already created for itself. This makes sense, and the creators have taken the right call by wrapping the story.
While you might be conflicted about the ending and want some sort of closure, here’s some good news. A spin-off series is already under development, and it would take this universe forward.
At the end of Killing Eve season 4, it is revealed that Carolyn Martens had ordered the hit on Villanelle. The MI6 master-spy is one of the most fascinating characters of the series.
Her cold and calculative personality with just a little hint of humanity surely made fans love her. Her vulnerability and personal relationships, among other things, are explored. What added to this was her enigmatic existence in this universe.
So, a spin-off series seems like an appropriate direction to take. This way, the creators can continue to build this universe and tell different stories while still keeping the legacy of the original show untouched.
Currently, there’s no news of when this new show will go into production and release. It will likely be at least a year before this series comes out.
Hopefully, before that, we can learn more about the plot/premise surrounding Carolyn Martens. There’s a good chance the creators might go for a prequel-like story that sheds more light on the character and how she became who she is in Killing Eve.
