A week after dropping the trailer for its new anime series Trese, Netflix has revealed the series’ release date. Netflix Geeked official Twitter account announced the date along with a new poster.
The tweet is captioned, “She’s the bridge between the real and the supernatural. Trese arrives June 11.”
Trese, Netflix’s first Filipino anime series, the highly anticipated horror-crime anime, has been in the works for quite some time and is one of the year’s most highly awaited anime releases. Trese will be the first Filipino anime series on Netflix.
Trese is based on Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo’s popular manga of the same name. It follows detective Alexandra Trese, who takes on a criminal underworld in a fictional Manila where mythical creatures live in hiding amid humans. BASE Entertainment is in charge of the anime’s production.
The official synopsis from Netflix for Trese reads:
In Manila, where dark supernatural forces pervade the criminal underworld, it’s up to Alexandra Trese to keep the peace — but there’s a storm brewing.
In October 2020, Netflix posted two images, revealing Trese’s first look.
Trese’s first season will contain six episodes. The manga consists of seven books in total. Considering the manga’s popularity, if the show does well, the possibility of the series being renewed for a second season isn’t far off.
On March 8, 2021, Netflix revealed the lead voice cast of Trese. Filipino actress Liza Soberano (My Ex and Whys, Alone/Together) will voice Alexandra Trese in the Filipino language version, and Filipino-Canadian actress Shay Mitchell (YOU, Pretty Little Liars) will voice the lead character in the English version.
The series was officially announced in November 2018 and Netflix’s ‘See What’s Next Asia’ event in Singapore. Trese will premiere on Netflix on Friday, June 11, 2021.
