Everything To Know About Latest HBO Spin-off HBO Max, Coming Out In May

Here’s how HBO’s various streaming options will work once HBO Max is released.

HBO Max, WarnerMedia’s latest addition to its Home Box Office series, is ready to hit the streaming world on May 27.

Here’s everything we know about the latest HBO spin-off, in what is a series of unnecessary separate streaming platforms.

Here is a very quick rundown of the three platforms:

  • HBO Go– Launched in 2010, this service is available only to cable subscribers. It also allows streaming HBO content to internet-connected devices.
  • HBO Now – While the content streamed is the same as HBO Go, you don’t need to have a cable subscription for this service.
  • HBO Max– What is being called WarnerMedia’s platform, HBO Max is a standalone streamer which also includes original content from other networks and movie studios. Hence the name Max.

How HBO Max works

HBO Max is set to have original content exclusive to its, plus series and movies from WarnerMedia’s larger stable of existing stuff.

South Park, The Big Bang Theory, Wonder Woman, Friends are some of the names coming to Max this May.

It feels and sounds like a streamer, but according to HBO, Max is but a “platform offered by WarnerMedia”.

HBO Max will be available through HBOMax.com. HBO Now subscribers billed directly through HBO or Apple and Google will get instant access to HBO Max at no extra cost.

HBO subscribers who get HBO through AT&T TV, DirecTV, AT&T U-Verse, or Spectrum will get access to HBO Max for free.

How HBO Now works with HBO Max

HBO Now subscribers will get access to MAX on the launch, with both services being priced at $15 a month. Those who access Now through a third party such as Hulu, Apple, or Roku will have to wait longer to get the switch-over.

With 10,000 hours of content from a number of WarnerMedia brands, it definitely seems like HBO Max will soon take over as the company’s main platform. However, there are no announcements of the same yet.
